budget up to £4k
i will compromise on the turbo if its very speical, im a massive fan of the ford ST range but focus and fez rape me on insurance
good to drive, petrol, small, pref 3 door, lower insurance group, im only 20
good - xenons
bad - MX5, most jap interiors, things from the golf family tree
doesnt do more than about 10k a year but i still want a bit of comfort and a good stereo

Although the full requirements for this possible purchase appear to be lacking. Audi TT or S3? Not small enough?, Nissan March Turbo, JDM import though.

You will thank me for this suggestion.
It is a car I've driven roughly 100 miles in on twisty mountain roads in North Wales. It has 3 cylinders 3 doors is a hatchback is ok on fuel makes a lovely noise like half a 911.
It is the Diahatsu Charade GTTI
It weighed 800kg had a 900cc engine with 12v 4 per cylinder and made 99bhp so a tidy 125bhp per tonne.

Not sure I'd wanna put 10k a year on one now though. Parts are getting too rare to make it a realistic proposition IMO.

Not sure there was a UK specific ltd edition, but My last one was a GTxx which were only available in Japan and had skirts, AC, PAS, electric windows+sunroof, and optional two tone paint as mine did. It was originally imported and registered as new in the UK by someone high up at Daihatsu and used as their company car for a while. Cams, hybrid running 25psi, bilsteins, LSD, 9000rpm and 160hp. Wish I'd never sold it really.

OK, everyone else here, don't laugh but OP, go and test drive a Nissan Micra 160SR. Group 6 but a warm hatch and a bit "under the radar". Has the advantage of being relatively modern and is quite rare. Aircon, 6 airbags, auto this and that, 6cd stereo.

Import Toyota Starlet/Glanza? Drove a friends Starlet GT a few years back and it was quite a giggle.

Impreza? Turbocharged and reasonably cheap to buy and certainly an able performer.
Id regard the Classic Impreza as a relatively small car too. Petit at the time and dwarfed by something like a current Mondeo, or even a Focus.
Insurance isnt bad if you ask the right people.
