I occasionally eat at McDonald's.

I used to see one just like this regularly out and about when I was at uni in Loughborough. Great looking car in the metal and his one sounded bonkers too.

Amazing how no-one would blink at paying £32k for a Sierra Cosworth or E30 M3, when this is probably 100 x the fun of both.

I still can't see the appeal of it one jot, especially at £32k. I bow down to your higher spelling ability but my comment was directed to your first comment as i didn't see your second one and the ones that commented later (page not refreshing every 1 second),still if you knew a little bit more about motorsport you would appreciate these cars as any other real petrolhead does,in fact worship the Group B cars (as these were its road going models).

I owned mine for 14 years (1994 - 2008). On the road all year round as a garaged second car. Used to eat clutches (expensive), but never needed any engine work. Brakes appalling. Used it for our 3 week honeymoon in Corsica, SE France and NW Italy. Also trip to N Spain. Fabulous car and eventually sold it for the purchase price + all maintenance costs, so "free" motoring for 14 years (disregarding inflation and petrol/MOT/insurance costs). Unfortunately it's now worth at least twice as much!

James Hoseason of boating holiday fame also had one (real).

Oh, I was/am a huge fan of Group B when it was active and veritably salivate at the UR Quatrro (IMO, the best rally car ever), the Lancia 037 and the RS200. I was totally glued to that 2 hour documentary on Group B and the tragedy that befell Toivonen & Cresto but IMO, this Renault doesn't really rate as a great rally car.

LewisR said: Horrible, horrible, horrible. Just what is the point? It's a hot(ish) hatch without being able to use the hatch-thing. It's the worst of both worlds; the small space of a 2 seater with the looks of a hatchback. It's only [nominally] 160bhp too.
The Sierra Cosworth was out in '86 (just). Its a fair point, and the same ciricism could be levelled at the V6 Clios (why not buy an equally fast normal RenaultSport Clio?), but that doesn't stop these from being wonderful machines, and I for one, love them I suppose it's a bit like the transit vans with engines in the load bay. What's the point of a transit that can't carry stuff? None. It's just cool.

On dry Tarmac the Maxi was the fastest of all Group B cars. It even left the 205 T16 Evo for dead on the way to winning the Tour de Corse. Renault only entered a few events due to F1 commitments and the known short-comings on loose surface events. 3 WRC event wins are 3 more than the RS200 & Metro 6R4 put together.

The Sierra Cosworth was out in '86 (just). Crikey if we all thought like you we'd all be driving round in eco friendly people carriers....... its precisely the "whats the point" reasons you point out, why i like this car! Its got a historical context in rallying and motorsport and is just achingly handsome as a car....awesome. For me purely a forza 4 plaything though... He also missed that the car has been tuned, so it's 210bhp. You lot also missed reading my post properly. I said it only NOMINALLY has 160bhp. I ALSO said that the Cosworth Sierra was out in '86, which isn't much of an eco-friendly people carrier either. Furthermore, I accepted that it was a homologation vehicle but the mispelling, non-quoting "dude" missed that point too. I still can't see the appeal of it one jot, especially at £32k. I ignored the word 'nominally' because this is a ridiculous context in which to use it. I accept that you're trying to say 'in standard trim' but even if you'd said this then you'd have been lampooned for focussing on the performance.

It was outclassed by the competition but it's still as cool as f k. Built-for-rallying looks and design. Engine behind you (this is absolutely thrilling too, as I experienced in my MR2 Turbo). The Sierra Cosworth is my favourite car ever, but that was built to wipe the floor with every other touring car of the day (which it did) and to give Ford a new car to be proud of. But that really doesn't have much to do with this bonkers French rally hatch. The Ur Quattro and the 205 T16 may have wiped the floor with it competition wise, but it's still cool for what it is.

I think it's on ITV1 tomorrow afternoon. You get to see a wild 1980s Barbera Carreras, a sweaty Kim Basinger and a Turbo 2 car chase. Apart from that it's a rubbish non-franchised Thunderball remake. So save your time by Youtubing the car chase bit.

The RS200 only got to race for 1 year though before group B was abolished, whereas this was raced for 6 years, so that's not really a fair comparison. Apparently the 6R4 raced for even less time than the RS200.
