Why did BL fit LHD wipers to all their cars?
Isn't it one of the few things that it shares with a Porsche 911 (or at least some of them)? I'm sure I read that the reasoning behind it on those was to clear the screen in front of the driver as quickly as possible, whereas with "RHD" wipers it clears the other side first.
Probably thought it was cheaper to do wipers for the countries that drive on the wrong side of the road than have 2 set ups.

Air cooled Porsche 911 drive better as lefties due to the way the pedals are spaced/lay out. It was only for the 996 onwards that they sorted that out.

My 924S was RHD, but had LHD wipers.

I would imagine BL sold far more cars to RHD countries than LHD. The clearing the screen in front of the driver also describes an arc of dirty screen.

Porsche I imagine sell far more cars to LHD countries than RHD so just having LHD wipers makes sense. Unlike BL.

.
My Triumph 2000 had LHD wipers, but cars for LHD markets had RHD wipers (if you see what I mean). For the NZ/Aus built cars, some had RHD wipers with a pantograph arm.

I found the LHD wiper setup quite useful because you could have the quarter light open in the rain without the wipers throwing water into you. This was another good thing about the wiper set up on my E39 5 series - you could open the window slightly and operate the screenwash (or drive in rain) without getting soaked by the wiper arm flicking water back at you.

Here’s a fine example of BL thinking:

RHD car with LHD wiper pattern

But for LHD cars these have a RHD wiper pattern

Pre 996s had LHD and RHD wiper set up, but the 924 and early 944, like a lot of 80s VW had LHD wipers for both R and LHD cars as a cost saving

I saw a gen 1 Porsche Boxster Club Sport the other day. It was yellow with yellow wheels and Club Sport along the side in the correct graphics in black.

That's not a thing is it? I don't think it is!

It looked like a rip off of a 968CS.

Cortina, definitely! That's a Starcraft camper, brought to the discerning eighties motorhome enthusiast by the people behind the Spartan kit car and the Sherwood - an attempt to produce a Matra-Simca Rancho facsimile on Cortina running gear. I don't know if any Sherwoods were ever built, or whether they remained a figment of someone's rather fevered imagination.

Oddly, the idea of a six-wheeler Ford campervan outlasted both the Cortina and the Starcraft company.

Coaster Alamor. I don't know what the trophy is for. Perhaps it's the Turner Prize...

If you prefer, there was also a coach built version:

Did anyone else notice that it's the same car?

Nope boxedin

I much prefer the first iteration where it looks like the Mondeo is emerging out of the Campervan.

That's a reference to the PX-33, Mitsubishi's first offroader.

So it is! The thing is correctly registered as a 'Coaster Alamor' on that plate and is still MOTd and taxed. Someone cares for it: the MOT history is chequered, but it seems a lot of work has been done to keep the Alamor on the road.

And they still do it - the Cupra Born has RHD cars with LHD windscreen wipers.

Going by the BL logic a few replies back it seems the VAG empire thinks that those in RHD markets require quicker clearing of their windscreen? How thoughtful of them!

Who knew?

In 1959, the specialist tractor company Roadless Traction Ltd of Hounslow, West London, created this monster out of a Land Rover Series II 109, and in May of this year it turned up in North Yorkshire at Tennants Auctioneers. The second prototype of a production run that amounted to fewer than 20 similar vehicles, and one of six remaining, it flew past its £50k estimate and sold for £110,000 ($136,000),

^^ I wonder how they sorted out the gearing for those humungous wheels? Or perhaps the easy answer was just to drive everywhere in low ratio.
