It’s a less interesting, inferior version of the Vauxhall Insignia. Boring car for a new generation of boring people to drive.
I assume you commute to work on a Vincent Black Shadow?
Brough Superior actually.

Doesn’t mean I’m wrong though, just look at it! This thread makes all the old, diesel economy threads look interesting. “Indicator stalks” ffs.

I've mentioned this many times previously. The rate of EV's making headlines on this site is alarming. In my opinion the site should be split ICE / EV's This way we can choose between the two and not force-fed the tripe of electric cars every time you hit the home page.
What do you expect PH to do, they exist in a large part to deliver automotive news (by definition this is generally about new vehicles)? Unless you hadn't noticed, the ICE chapter is very rapidly reaching an end and therefore, unsurprisingly, an ever increasing amount of new vehicles coming to market are EV due to the manufacturers recognising 5-10 years ago which way things were going.

Is the penny finally dropping that EVs aren't just a passing fad? By all means stick with ICE vehicles yourself, but I don't think you can expect an automotive news website to remain stuck in the past.

Do you post in every thread for a car you won't buy?

What does that OG sentence mean? I know it’s a desperate thing to make out you don’t follow modern times (which I don’t) and the usual passive aggressive response is to use google to find out yourself - but I did google it and it still makes little sense to me as used in the passage.

“Original Gangster” for those also in the dark.

I’m guessing it’s just how language evolves or something.

The car looks like it will be terrifically fast. Im sure it has other qualities on top. Just doesn’t appear particularly covetable. All just my opinion.

I read this evening in the Harry’s Garage thread talk about there being no obvious/traditionsl speedo. Also no HUD. That can’t be right, surely?
The "OG" was actually original/old generation back in the day and was named like that way before any Gansta Rap.

In Saab circles the first gen Saab 900 was refered to as the OG900 and the GM one the NG900 for "new generation".

Doesn't say much for how interesting this new car is when one of the biggest subjects of the thread is my usage of the term "OG". rofl

it might actually be worth the 10k upgrade this time given the new sports seats, the adaptive suspension and upgraded brakes

I've got the current model 3 performance. This new one is definitely on my list as a used buy in a couple of years or so.

It seems many people think that these things are not interesting to drive, but I don't find that at all. I've always said that for me, it handles like my old 330i, but the power out of the bends on the back roads is simply something else entirely.

The Tesla is a significant improvement on the Vauxhall.

Classier and less fussy.

I know a couple of Tesla drivers and they are scarily not boring although not all car owners are going to be such extreme types.

Its is a bit dull, does look a bit Insignia-esque, but its not meant to be a Ferrari substitute.

And the folk I know who have Teslas, none of them are any more or less boring than the average, and guess what being a car enthusiast doesnt mean you arent boring, often the two go together, people do other stuff and the car is just a way to get to them to that. On Sunday I am going to the birthday of one of the most interesting guys I know, speaks several languages, travels extensively, flys a microlight and is genuinely fascinating, just has a fairly mundane Seat, not into cars, its a tool do do a job.

However what impresses me most about the model 3 is how efficient they are.
I think that is the rub really. The model 3 works well for tight gits and boring people to me, because anyone who wants a bit of excitement in their life, wouldn't give a rats ass about efficiency in my opinion.
Oh come on Lee you are so reluctant to have real excitement you won't even take your M4 on a track day, let alone the Caterham which was absolutely built for tracking.

If you want a continual adrenalin rush do a bit of Ocean racing or even just partaking on the start line with 30 or so other yachts all trying to start perfectly. If those are a bit costly, Kite sailing, winging or windsurfing are cheap alternatives. You could even do proper Karting for a bit of a rush.

The Tesla is a car which is designed for the function of carrying people from A to B effectively and efficiently. This one happens to be the quick version.

In life there are talkers and do-ers. I suspect an equal number of each inhabit these threads. To me the chap that has a BAC Mono which he tracks also tracks his Kia EV6 GT when the weather is unsuitable for the Mono is very much a do-er.

Tesla is viewed as technology company yet can't get easy technology like HUD into any of its cars. This was acceptable 20 years ago but not anymore. Last acceptable use of center dash speedo was in Ferrari 250 Berlinetta Lusso.

Regarding this claimed 510bhp. Tesla sent an email to me last night "Introducing Model 3 Performance"

It refers to 460 horsepower rather than 510bhp yet also a 2.9 second 0-60mph time. The previous car had a reported 453bhp and 3.1 second 0-60mph time (per Autocar). I suspect the 460bhp is correct and the 2.9 second also just reflects mostly the difference between 0-60 and 0-62 times, perhaps a very slight performance difference.

That seems in line with earlier comment on here that the Shanghai factory cars are 50bhp down from 510bhp.

In my opinion the move away from Michelin Pilot Sport 4S to Pirelli's will likely be a downgrade and wipe out some of the chassis improvement benefits. Also that claimed range

I have mixed feelings when it comes to the MPS4S verses the Pirellis. I like the Michelin a lot on the M4, however they wear like crazy on the rear of the GLE though(it is 4WD though). I can only presume that is down to the difference in weight.

If I can get hold of them I will be ditching the Michelin on the GLE and I'll be going back to the Pirellis for certain. The Pirellis seem to suit the car better for me, plus they don't wear as badly as the Michelin do either in comparison.

I appreciate that if I did a poll, I'd imagine that the majority would prefer Michelins to the Pirellis though I think.

Has the love of ICE finally be reduced to a hobby for the old generation?
If not yet, then it's a 'when', but they will be a hobby for car enthusiasts, not just older ones.
We have 10 more years of ICE car sales before the bans. Why are you so worried right now?

It was repurposed for Fortnite (online game) where it simply means someone who was there at the beginning of the game. In this context it means he had the original M3P.

To respond to "covetable", Jason Cammisa (US journo who seems knowledgeable) was saying he would have this new M3P over the currently available alternatives, including the BMW M3. I will wait to see the opinion of a UK journalist I trust.

Finally, a lot of rubbish is talked about the speedo placement in Model 3's by people who haven't driven them for a long time. It takes you half an hour to get used to looking down and left rather than just down, then you forget about it. It's not as if no cars have ever had central speedo's - I'm old enough to remember the original minis. It's easy to tell what speed you are doing - complete non-issue.
Mini's still had a central speedo in 2013.

The insignia isn't even a bad looking car.

It's problem is it's association with Vauxhall and council houses.
