All that Facebook and the like have shown is that the country has a significant proportion of complete mouth breathing, knuckle scraping morons - far more, perhaps, than anyone could have possibly imagined.

This thread simply backs that up with just risible stupidity from the laughable mob of deranged loonies who appear to "hate" an entire group of people simply based on their mode of transport at a particular time, to the point of wishing to actually murder them or cause them physical injury. Truly bonkers, and rather scary.

PH should take a much firmer line against posters who make this place look like it's inhabited by people who cannot drive, do not care that they cannot drive, blame others for their bad driving, and think that they should be allowed to intimidate and bully other road users because they cannot drive. Almost every anti-cycling rant merely proves that the driver is incapable, incompetent and dangerous. Do we really want PH to be see in that light?
Why don't they run more articles about driving, for example, get content from people who can explain drifting, hill climbs etc, the bits of driving we all love but many of us do not know much about.

I think the CH stuff is good but there is little else to run alongside it to balance it all out.

Articles covering the details of how parts of cars work would also be fascinating.

But too much content is being delivered by manufacturers instead of firms involved in other aspects of the industry.

But the comments from some people on subjects such as other road users is as frightening as it is depressing. These are people with quite serious issues to even think these things let alone put them on paper.

PH and all this putting everyone into boxes is getting worse.
And just more angry and thick. This place is not what it was. More and more articles about dull cars, less and less about real petrol head stuff.

We've just had Pebble Beach, PH had someone there and pretty much all they talk about was cars you can go and buy on tick 10 minutes from where you live.

At that show were some of the greatest cars ever made along with a tribute to Shelby. And we got an article on a Jag.

There is no doubt that the site is being made more commercial which means attracting the angry, ill-educated, tabloid believing man in the street. Full of self importance and indignation.

PH isn't really a 'club' any more so we don't get any club benefit when it comes to participation. Still plenty of good people around but steadily being swamped by the run off the mill idiots brought to the site by run of the mill journalism.
Seconded. You only have to look at how many pages a post like 'my diesel does amazing MPG' runs too vs news about a new V12 supercar. It's a shame.

I am going to buy a hummer H1. Lets see how quick they get into single file when that comes lumming up behind them. Muhahahaha.

Wonder if there is an option for a .50 cal to be attached?
Why would it feel any more threatening than any other car/lorry/van etc approaching from the rear? confused

As a cyclist I would feel more threatened by a badly driven Saxo approaching.

Ironic isn't it.. you moan about being held up by cyclists yet spend your valuable moments ranting on an internet forum about how they use up your time. Maybe time isn't so critical to you after all? wink

Ironically when I was cycling in Africa earlier in the year the drivers of massive lorries were respectful of me on the bike. They gave me plenty of room and sounded the horn when they were approaching from the year. I didn't feel at all intimidated.

I'd me more concerned by the potholes!

When I was in Tanzania, you could lose your car in some of them.
Even in the Land Cruiser we had to detour round them.

I have to admit to not having read the 22 pages of this thread, but I do feel that riding 2 abreast is just bloody rude, no matter how wide or long the road. How would you feel if you came up behind 2 horses doing the same?! I'm a foot in both camps but don't ride 2 abreast - no matter what. I do feel an uncontrollable urge to lean out of the window with my palm facing the direction of travel & vaguely aimed at the offending cyclist's arse, but am usually sat in the wrong bloody seat!

I suspect if this resulted in a serious accident then you would be looking at prison time.

A national radio station was having a session on this subject recently, & discussing one very bussy road leading into the city.

Motorists. "I get sick of cyclists who ride down the foot path, passing cars stopped at lights, then switch to the road holding up all the cars".

Cyclists. [President of cyclist association]. "It doesn't hurt the car driver to show a bit of courtesy. We don't hold them up very much".

Radio Presenter. "Hang on, I know that road. There's a bike path, that cost a fortune to build, running a full 8KM down it. Why don't you use that"?

Cyclist. "Yes, but that's full of slow recreational cyclists, & even people walking. It's too slow to use to go to work". Typical of cyclists I find, they'll hold everyone else up, but wont put up with it them selves.

What we need is a spring loaded cow catcher built into cars, which would pick them up from in front of cars, & chuck them out the back.

Staying two abreast when you hear a car is just tempting the child in some drivers to 'make a point'.

I see why cyclists do it- to ensure you hang back for a proper overtake however its a red rag to some.

Simply command the road single file. Thats what I do.

BTW mountain bikers always ride parallel then quickly to single file when they hear a car. That makes an instant impression on the driver, smugness or thankful- eitherway its safer.

Roadie you dont own the road but you share it with occassional incompetent, childish fkers.

Im off now, down snakepass to start my cycle ride tongue out

Peace

Fine? Especially as, whilst I would expect a cyclist to have at least some notion of how cars work, I wouldn't expect the same of a horse, so I'm providing lots of room anyway. I definitely wouldn't consider injuring them in retribution, only a psychopath would do that.

Oh wait.

Agreed. I regularly come across horses riding in pairs across the lane. Far more often than cyclists doing the same, and where I live is a prime riding and cycling area. They presumably do this to prevent daft overtakes and perhaps to have a more experienced horse/rider on the outside. I have never felt annoyed by the actions of either sets of road users when driving about.

Used to find it annoying when in the car seeing guys 2by2 on bikes. Since alot of riders I ride with do ride 2a breast (on quieter roads) is hard to not do the same. When I am on the bike alongside another rider (normally falling out of my ass trying to keep up) and you have cars coming past on the horn and going as close as possible you realise how pathetic and petty it looks from the bikers point of view. Also the fact that it really wouldnt take much to cut it just too fine and kill a rider I dont let it wind me up anymore when driving.

I don't know what it's like in Oz, but in the UK this is what the roads look like at rush-hour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aq_ce0D9eMQ

No doubt these drivers would be incensed at being delayed by a cyclist for seconds, but they'll happily delay each other as car drivers for hours.
