ezi said: Guy at work asking about my new car... Him: What engine is in your car? Me: It's a 2 litre Him: Turbo? Me: No. Him: Is it a diesel? Me: No it's an ST so they only make them in petrol form. Him: Oh that's a shame, if it was a diesel it would be 'rapid'. Me: I just stay out of the my diesel is the fastest thing I have ever owned and it is really fast type arguments, I just listen and snigger to myself. Most evidently haven't got a clue what a rapid car actually is.

Blown2CV said: there is a school of transport psychology that says that behavioural adaptation associated with the lack of signage would mean a reduction in accidents. Put simply, if you aren't nannied, you rely on your own senses - and to rely on your senses to need to pay attention. Although it would be pretty hard to get anywhere. More road hours and a lot more confusion = more accidents.

Conversely, if there are too many road signs people ignore them all, including the important ones. This just seems to make the local authorities to put more signs up!

"If the government can't afford to clean the road signs then maybe they should remove them all" Where is there an issue with dirty road signs? There is an issue with EVERYTHING on the Jeremy Vine show. He seems like an intelligent chap though, maybe its always a wind up...

On a similar note, after telling a neighbour my Bluebird has a 2 litre engine, he replied "wow, that must be quick" (108bhp iirc)

'the boy who cried wolf' should be mandatory reading for every gov./council employee who works on road safety. Can they please take away the temporary 'no road markings' signs first - I KNOW THERE ARE NO ROAD MARKINGS - I KNOW THAT BECAUSE THE ROAD MARKINGS AREN'T THERE

Can they please take away the temporary 'no road markings' signs first - I KNOW THERE ARE NO ROAD MARKINGS - I KNOW THAT BECAUSE THE ROAD MARKINGS AREN'T THERE For crazy road signs drive along this stretch of road: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=gorsey+lane,+burto...Its the boundary between warrington and st helens councils. The warrington council has left the road as a national speed limit, the st helens council went mad last year and changed all the national speed limits to 50s. As a result you come out of Burtonwood (sensibly a 30), the road changes to a national speed limit, it then goes round two 90 degree bends and then turns into a 50 not more than 50 yards later. For about 6 months it was worse as they hadn't even put a 50 sign up at that end, so it was a national from one direction and a 50 from the other... But even at 50 its a nice road to drive down. I need to get my Midget finished so that I will be able to enjoy that road properly.

VR6 Turbo said: I never doubted the R26's prowess. I am amazed that VW would stick GTI badges on a 115bhp model's as it make the top spec GTI that much less exclusive.
VR They seemed to go through a funny phase in the late '90s/early '00s when 'GTI' almost became a trim level, their 'S-Line' almost. One of the reasons why the MkV was so acclaimed is that it readdressed this awkwardness. There was only one GTI, and it was fast.
