Yes but I am talking purely about the animated gif thread...where most of the problems seem to arise.

Gifs are usually meant to shock/amuse in some way, so if you click on that thread you are open to the consequences?

I am not saying it should be allowed to have random tits littered all over PH but in certain threads a women in a bikini can't be that offensive.
I know where you are coming from, but this site has and continues to try and be work safe, I know of friends who can get on almost nothing at work but can access PH

So the assumption can be (and should be) that any thread contained within would be SFW

Some people might find it offensive that you can't even be bothered to learn to spell the thing you're accusing them of.
Yes - clearly important.

'bothered' is not the case - not knowing is slightly more realistic don't you think?.

Which is nice for those who spend their 'lunch hour' reading PH at work.

It does smack a little of lowest common denominator, and highlight the inconsistent moderation.

Perhaps more use of the NSFW (which in itself looks dodgy - how about) concealer might be considered.

I happened to be on during my lunch but I do pop on and off during the day

Surely the lowest common denominator are the ones who get excited about some boobies in a GIF thread?

A concealer would work but I still imagine it would lead to PH getting flagged by IT systems as non work safe

I don't want to come across as a right miserable bd but there are sites for those sorts of things, The Chive for example caters very well indeed, its not however what I come on PH for and I expect when I do come on PH for it to be entirely work safe

It's not entirely worksafe though, there are things that slip under the radar and even crazy people that get upset with mods and post porn all night (I was there with the last onebiggrin) There are boobs on the PH forums although I havn't come accross any in recent times.

Anyway my point is, it's only safe once a mod has seen it, until then you have to click at your own risk.

There is another factor which is being totally missed here, but has been indirectly referred to .....

Posting and linking NSFW images associates PH with that type of content. This, in turn, will result in PH getting blocked from access for many at work.

Which would be even more damaging.

Bottom line, if you want to look at boobies and suchlike, then there are many many specialist sites which cater for that and more.

I quite like being able to read PH during lunchtime; and I'd quite like to keep it what way too smile

I know, juss playing. smile

On a serious note and at the risk of sounding like a goody two shoes, at the moment, I'm quite happy that the modding is as it is. Only a couple of weeks ago, our server wouldn't let me into The Lounge. Everywhere else on PH but not there. A topic was removed and all good the next day. It is a difficult balance but I think it's done very well and once again, criticise the Mods all you like but to reiterate, the majority are not paid, just volunteers. I Love PH. It's helped me in my past stupidity and I have made a couple of very good acquaintances on here.

Things are tough in Corporate World just now,so let's not forget that questionable material on PH could just be the excuse to moan and winge about 'lack of productivity' and have it barred for many of us. Myself included. I can't even google lucky dip 'French Military Victories' without getting barred for attempting to access a 'joke/humour' website.....just see what alarms and flashing lights go off if I try to access explosisme.net (cyanide and happiness) site from work. DefCon 5. And I really don't want to see that about PH.

Keep up the good work, chaps! thumbup

So, what have we gained so far?

Is it dependant upon:

Who the poster is,
What the post was,
Where it was posted,
The topic title,
Or a combination of all 4?

I'm not adding fuel to the fire, I am a tad confused by this - just check out 'Grid Girls vol 1 to god knows what it's up to now' - there's mammaries all over (not that I'm complaininghehe ) but those posts are clearly acceptable.

Is it just clarity over the contents that should be paramount here?

Thanks,
Scott

The topic title
Or a combination of all , probably this
I am just guessing but I imagine it is more like my edit of your post

Just as a closure note to this thread,

The Pit Babes thread demise came a few weeks back, members took no notice of the warnings given and it was decided by the Mod team that finally the line had been crossed & was closed.

In reply to the first part of your post

1) It matters not who the poster is.
2) Content of the post is the first marker as to how badly it breached the rules.
3) It matters not where it was posted.
4) The topic title matters also not.

Not mentioned by you

5) Does this poster have a history!

If he does that would also be taken into account.

So in a nut shell if you don't want to get banned from a thread, forum or the site then DON'T breach any of the following:-

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/rules.htm

It really is that simple.
