At the risk of rekindling Fridaygate re moderation - I took the ref to permatan to be the sort of person who frequents tanning salons with luminous teeth who might be accused of being a chav, or the trope of Essex man.
Scrump - appreciate you have a job to do, and a fine job you do too.
Did the comment really have racial overtones ?
Yes it did. And I'm a left wing fanny if I don't like it, apparently. Scrump - appreciate you have a job to do, and a fine job you do too.

tobinen's E39 has reappeared. No mention of gearbox issues, but apparently they may only really be noticeable at speed, so be warned.

The Impala Brown X5 really showcases Frank Stephenson’s excellent design. He turned that around in a handful of months in Italy, with the guys that designed the Miura.
Great to see a handful finally getting strong money and going to decent owners who will preserve them. As you say they're a great looking design and the people I know who had them new really rated them.A chap on the M// barge other misc thread has bought a megaspec 4.8 iS that sounds wonderful, they're really not my sort of car but I'd have been tempted.

It didn't take too long and it's a lot cleaner than when I had it https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/395361568653
But, yes - LC52 UHA needs a TC or 'box (or something else of which I am unaware) if it still slips in top.

It is a shame BMW V8s are such a pain, there is a 2016 BMW 550i saloon with 59k on the clock going through BCA soon with a CAP of £13k odd, that should be amazing value but you know an early N63 is going to make your wallet cry.
Morning all,
Can anyone please recommend an auto transmission specialist in Hampshire or Surrey who could do a "total exchange" fluid change and service (filter?) on my E39 525i?
Many on the E39 Facebook page use a bloke in Dartford, but it's a bit of a trek and will waste half a day.
The posts above reminded me of this!
Thanks

Looks pretty clean for the mileage and the fact it’s lower thread budget

Nice old smoker for the money with 11 months MOT, it's like 2014 again seeing a usable E Class you can hope to bag for a grand, and I'd much rather the 5G gearbox and old triple valve engine in a shed too.https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202404259...
MOT history doesn't speak of enormous love and attention, but if it looks like it'll see out the 11 months ticket you can't be fussy for that money.

That engine and its forged-edam components is the only reason I have not yet bought a BMW. It's a paradox for me: you'd have to be mad to buy one that doesn't have a straight 6, but who would buy a straight 6 when you can buy a V8? So I end up buying non-BMWs with V8s made of metal. It is a shame BMW V8s are such a pain, there is a 2016 BMW 550i saloon with 59k on the clock going through BCA soon with a CAP of £13k odd, that should be amazing value but you know an early N63 is going to make your wallet cry.

Is it just me who thinks, looking at that, that it would be like driving around in a giant Werther's Original? biggbn said:

And not a Range Rover.

You are arguing against more of the attributes that define the appeal of a barge.
Rare colour combo
V8
Clear glass
SUVs aren’t as good as the purity of the originals myth
