When I wrapped my roush I used the 2" wide version of this:

I managed to use 100 feet of the stuff and could have done with another 10-20 to do the last couple of bits.

The absolute best kit for steel ties is this:

I don't know about that website but definitely that product.
Did you wrap your manifolds aswell or just from the turbos back?

Cheers for the other information, looks like im sleeping on the floor at my new house for a while longer haha

Where's a good place to get them and exactly what did you use? I've been looking at stainless steel Philidas turret nuts but my god they're expensive!

No that's pretty good. I need 52 as I've got manifolds plus all 6 joins of a Roush to refit and inc postage I was looking at nearly £60!!
What do you plan to do about washers?

I've not thought that far ahead. Ive got a variety of self locking nuts and washers at home anyway so may use those for the easilly accessable joins then use the 34 extra gucci ones for the manifold and turbo joins.
I may give BAPP a call as they have a branch in doncaster and do alot of different types including Philidas ones

Thinking more on this - my front turbo manifold uses 2 short lengths of studding in place of bolts due to the angle of the turbo flange. Might need to make that 36 nuts! At least the stainless washers are more reasonably priced.

Is it worth wrapping the manifolds too? Thinking 1"x50' to do the manifolds if so then 2"x100' to do the rest of the exhaust

I dunno, personally speaking I think they crack partly due to excessive heat and so keeping that heat in is probably not a good idea. Also I imagine it'd be a right pig of a job to do properly. If you really want to cover them then you might be better off with a ceramic coat.
Also I'd fit an exhaust with flexis as that's the other reason why they crack - weight and lack of give when the engine flexes - or fit them to the standard system if you don't want to change.

So, the big service starts today. I say starts as I'm still missing a couple of bits but I need to get it started. MOT is due next week and I'm away for a few weeks after this weekend. Hopefully finish it in 2 weekends time as I actually have a bank holiday off!

The parts so far then:

These are,
10 litres of 5w-40 shell helix ultra £55.76
6 NGK BR7EFS plugs £18.82
A Sytec bullet fuel filter £65ish
A ford oil filter £18.94
A Merlin motor sport rollover valve £46.82
100 feet of exhaust wrap £110
Gaskets from Nissan for each side of the turbo £62.54
3 litres of miller crx 75w90 nt gearbox oil £44.97
Halford 5.1 brake fluid, power steering fluid and 5 litres anti-freeze £33.31
2 sheets of nimbus £91.57
A pro alloy oil breather £165

A total of £712.73 so far.
I'm picking up some locking nuts today hopefully for the manifolds, should be around £20 and the parts from noble which are being made at the min will be here next week. These are the manifolds, gaskets between manifolds and heads and studs to bolt them to the heads. Should be around £1100.
Looking at a grand total then of circa £1850, I have gone to town though so the next few years will be a lot cheaper. Thank god I'm not paying fitting too :/

A couple of picture treats from last weekend

you will probably end up using all 100ft of wrap for the exhaust. I didnt wrap the boxes though.
Since your already spending a fair wedge, it would be a good idea to have the the manifolds ceramic coated. Not too sure on cost but will be alot better than wrapping them

Is using Halfords brake fluid really wise?

Yes it'll be fine, boiling point is still very very high. Not a massive tracker and it'll be changed at least every year. Bargain on a trade card

280c dry boiling
198c wet

And halfords 5.1
269c dry
187c wet

There's not much in it, and its £5.34 a litre wink

Well started at half 2. Rear clam took all of 5 seconds to come off. I love that smile

Then intercooler box came off.
The heat shielding underneath that needs some Nimbus :/

More heat shielding thats crap, and exhaust to remove.

Rear part of exhaust off. Only needed the dremel for 3 nuts smile

More space to work

Rear manifold off. Not sure it should be in 2 parts haha. They were still joined, just about.

Just need to get the front off now but stopped for some tea. 4 hours work so far!

It's good to see another car being looked after, mines in the same state as yours but I'm on the putting back together part. While you've got it like that, check the engine mount and driveshaft support bearing as it's a lot easier to change them with the exhaust off. Engine mount is £40ish support bearing is £90ish.

Cheers for the advice. Changed the support bearing back in Feb though so thats done. The mount seems solid, no movement. But i shall check again haha

Got the front turbo most of the way off. The part of the exhaust that goes under the engine wont come out though so i started removing that part of the floor. Stubborn stupid screws though so i gave up for the night.

Also just ordered some oil pipe for the turbo oil returns as they are splitting. The coolant pipes to the front turbo have gone solid and broke apart when removing so ordered a meter of coolant hose for them.

The air intakes from the filters to both turbos are past it. One has a large hole in that was taped up by a previous owner so ordered 2 meters of ducting.

As ive taken the very rear floor off ive ordered some mocal heat cloth to replace that bit that sits ontop of the floor.

Then finally ordered 45 Philidas turret nuts and 100 stainless washers.

Looks like im sleeping on the floor when i move into my house at the end of the month!!!

yikes how restrictive is that exhaust over a standard one? it still has the dreaded "y" piece before the cat and then they've added another (not so consequential) after the silencer ("Stealth" I bet it is hehe ) to split the tail pipes.
You need to save up and get a proper twin box set up that will control the heat better and release some ponies.

It may well be on the to do list haha.

I dont know what you mean, the car sounds like a 1.6 astra wink

Just got the front manifold off after an epic with the tray under the engine. The dremels had some use this morning. Going to order some hex head self tappers i think. Bloody posi drive ones are st
