Pops and Bangs
Discussion
Still waiting to pick my car up but I test drove a car without the sports exhaust and my first comment to the salesman was "it needs a new exhaust, all I can hear is the turbo". Needless to say mine is specced with a sports exhaust. Fingers crossed.
...... but then I am coming from an Evora 400 (standard exhaust) to which following a sporting bears parade a Gallardo driver is attributed with the comment - "Your exhaust is insane"
Child, yes, but this a is a sports car it's all part of the experience

Can now confirm we successfully removed the overrun in Sport and Track mode on the A110 premiere edition, this will apply to non-preimere editions and A110S
This will help extend your calalyst life, as it's quite aggressive stock, although with a short duration. It is more aggressive than Fiesta ST MK8/BWM M4 competition's and most modern cars we've seen with overrun as standard.
To create the overrun/burble noise you have to retard the ignition when lifting off the throttle, as an example M4's use around -5/-8 degrees. MK8 Fiesta ST 1.5l ecoboosts are at 0 degrees, neutral. The Alpine is at -15/-18

Interesting thread.
I have the Sports exhaust fitted as standard on the LGT and even when in Sports mode I don't find it over bearing at all to be honest. But perhaps I am not so aggressive on the down changes etc.
However this thread makes me wonder how the car would sound in the cabin without any sound augmentation / resonance being pumped inside. Does anyone know how it could be stopped - if only temporarily to compare how the car sounds when driving with nothing augmented and then with it "on" etc. Would be great if a reachable on / off component could be fitted within the engine bay for example.
Any of the above possible?

To silence the "tube" all that is involved is remove the connection to the bulkhead (2 10mm nuts) stuff the tube with foam and replace.
Personally I like the enhanced induction noise and am not really keen on the Sports exhaust itself - but if you go to the thread discussing it you will find conflicting opinions - so the only solution is to try it for yourself.
I also see that TRS can remap the ECU to cut the pops, bangs and flatulence of the sports exhaust.

I wrote and posted the method to block off the induction sound imposer inside the car, easy as and mine was the car Peter removed the pops and bangs from, it is a 2018 P.E. so came standard with the sports exhaust. I also tried disabling the electric sports exhaust valve actuator which I soon re connected as it effected the performance.Personally I like the enhanced induction noise and am not really keen on the Sports exhaust itself - but if you go to the thread discussing it you will find conflicting opinions - so the only solution is to try it for yourself.

sound/noise is a very individual thing, as a long retired musician who spent his life in recording and TV studios, I love sound but hate noise!

Thanks Neil, Johnny, I'll hunt out Neil's post on how to block off the induction sound into the cabin.sound/noise is a very individual thing, as a long retired musician who spent his life in recording and TV studios, I love sound but hate noise!
I have my A110 on order and hope to collect her in November. I already ordered some parts: Life110 shift paddles, some pouches, a phone holder, etc.
As I'm from Germany, I ordered my parts in France to stay within the EU at mecaparts a shop linked as EU dealer on Life110.
On page 2 of the A110 parts, a sound attenuation kit is sold. I'd like to post a link, but I'm not allowed to do so yet.
I assume this is exactly the part required to have a professional solution.

Assuming you mean either of these:

Yes, although sticking a bit of high density foam in there is cheaper

Great tip guys! At least it gives a choice on having the induced sound or not; and it can be easily reversed.https://www.mecaparts.com/product/kit-suppression-...

As Akrapovic are going to be making an exhaust system for the Alpine, I wonder what we would like to see, or more to the point hear?
This seems like the most relevant thread to ask, as weight saving is assured with a titanium system and I'm assuming we would all like it to be less restrictive, with a touch more more power and torque. I think this only leaves the question of noise, which is quite subjective.
I'd personally like some audible noise on gear changes in Sport/Track modes, and if possible having the 'pops and bangs' in sweet spots, or at least sounding more randomised compared to the 'pap pap pap pap' you can set your watch to on every lift off with the active sports exhaust.
On a related note, I'm also wondering how the standard exhaust sounds in Sport/Track mode?

Mine's got a standard exhaust and it is fairly subdued but I like that. It does pop a bit when you are on it but in a fairly subtle way and then not every time you back off, only when backing off from higher revs or going a bit faster. I don't think it sounds anywhere near as artificial as the sports exhaust that seems to do it all the time and at any speed. I'd suggest it sounds a bit more 'authentic' in that you drive to make it happen and are pleased when you do hear it rather than it being there every time regardless. Is this the case for the normal exhaust too? As in the standard non-sport exhaust also noticeably gets louder in Sport mode with some pops and bangs?....
I have the standard non-sport exhaust on my A110 and yes, that is the case. On normal mode there are no pops and bangs whatsoever, but on sport mode there are pops and bangs on downshifts and when lifting the gas pedal. There is slight increase on the general loudness on sport mode, but that is not very noticeable.Gassing Station | Alpine | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
