The only observation I would make is, unless you have a particular reason to visit Nairn, the B roads from the A9 Raigmore roundabout past the hospital to the A939 via Croy and Cawdor are much more fun than the A96.Edited by Red Devil on Tuesday 10th July 20:52

The Applecross 'circuit' is best done clockwise... driving up the steep bits you can get the tail out (if you dare), and you don't fry the brakes. Also, you get the best views down Loch Torridon after Applecross.
\/
Agree with that. Driving down the steep bits is pretty hard going mechanically. Finished off my last overdrive in 2008. \/
Those photos have me drooling here, can't wait to do this now and thanks for all the tips everyone.
Edit: Very close to if not the final route

There is no fuel in Plockton or Torridon, but there is in Kyle of Lochalsh, Lochcarron and *most of the time* a self service (card only) pump in Applecross. As I mentioned on the other throad, don't miss out Applecross... do the 'loop' clockwise for the best views, most fun drive.

Fuel situation is not as bad as you might imagine, for instance Super is available as far north west as Kyle of Lochalsh.
There's a great (true) story about that petrol station. Up until as late as the 1970's there was a hand pump used to fill cars, not an electric one. A big Yank V8 turned up and the chap asked the owner to 'fill her up'... but left the engine running. The owner started to fill the car up, but after a while turned to the American and said "Would you mind turning the engine off, she's gaining on me".Skye is stunning. Take road Broadford north to Portree, (via a compulsory stopover for refreshment at Sligachan Inn), amazing. But even better (my favourite) is road north of Portree up east coast to the top of the island. Been going there regularly for over 20yrs, the car knows the road itself, even got married and had honeymoon there. Many other beautiful roads on Isle of Skye also. Just watch out for sheep on the roads, and have some idea of how to use passing places and make allowance for those who dont (lots oncoming foreign mobile-home-drivers just drive by them and expect you to back-up if youre "in their way"). Going back there end of next week.
Also agree re previous posts on here as regards beautiful Applecross area and north west highlands. Enjoy.

Did a fantastic drive of the applecross loop a month ago. Managed to do the A87 as well to the isle of Skye. Drove from broadford to portree then back
Fantastic scenery and even better roads. The bealch na ba really is incredible. I wish i had taken more photos but it was just to much fine to drive on!
Ill upload some of the best ones later

I'll be there a week from now, staying in Lochcarron Friday night and Bealach Na Ba will pretty much be the first road I hit Saturday morning before heading further north via Ullapool and beyond. My Go Pro Motorsport gear was delivered today, tried out a few camera positions on the car this afternoon, should be bloody awesome Gassing Station | Roads | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
