ilikestellaartoi said: I would have to buy a white 1.9 Gotta agree they look great in white! I'm looking now, and would love to find a white one, but there don't seem many about. Similar to others, I think my enthusiam comes from my dad. We always had Talbots (latterly Peugeots), and I remember my dad's 1.9 GTI which at the time I thought was the best thing in the world, looked great, sooooooo fast. I even have fond memories of my mum's C-reg 1.0 205 XL (in a sort of sky blue colour), manual choke of course, that I learnt to drive in. Hell, I even remember the D-reg 309 GE we had in the same colour, I must be some sort of Peugeot-Talbot geek. They're both still on the road, just checked the regs. Struggling to remember the reg of the Talbot Samba though, I must have been a bit too young for car memories to sink in then.

So....fast...yep still takes me aback when you nail it and you are in the sweet spot it just launches! I went out this afternoon to have a little drive and take some more photos....left home at 13:30.....Got back at 16:30 Needless to say I have lots of bug splats....brake dust and a mahooooosive grin on my face. I have torn the ass out of Sussex and Surrey's twisty A & B roads....some of it was almost rally esq....oh and I think the tit trying to look cool and stop me passing on his Ghey-boi Harley Davidson got a right shock at the raw power and handling of a 205 GTI Pugly is soooo bloody naughty though she leads me astray...I was supposed to do house work for the Mrs as she was working in the hospital today....you can all guess how much of thats gotten done....nine-tenths of ***k all Oh and I didnt take any photos either!

I just remember the fun times in mine, in situations when a normal car would kill you, have confidence in the 205 and it will see you through. Foot to the floor in second at 50+ mph with the wheel at about 1/3 lock and 6 foot from the tail of a porker through the twisties coming up the hills heading East out of Honiton. Obviously he would embarrass me on the straights but as he wouldn't go much over 80 I could catch him before the next bend for another round. Great fun! I did abuse mine though, when I got it at 115k it would show 140 on the clock at 7k but by the time I sold it on for a paltry sum it wouldn't do over 135. Really do wish I'd kept hold of it sometimes. Also remember a buddy of mine dropping me off at the pub in it and I'd mentioned to him a couple of days before how it would do 60 in 2nd but then it was really time to change up, he turned it around at the roundabout and came hoofing past me as I walked into the pub at 70 in 2nd! And the time I did Marsh Mills roundabout (Plymouth) to Unicorn Gate (Portsmouth)run along the coast road in 1h 54 mins (5am) - 196 miles if I remember, full tank of fuel emptied so about 20 mpg but a brilliant drive!

Also did the Plymouth to Portsmouth run on my GSXR on a Sunday afternoon once. Not as quick though as you gotta stop for fuel. Although doing 165 down the Puddletown bypass instead of 140 in the Pug was a tad more thrilling. I would never time myself on the bike on any runs though, it would just promotes the competitiveness within me and would lead to an untimely accident. And now in Jakarta I don't even drive, have some old boy to do it for me, no fun to be had here though as too much traffic. :-(

Yup for the fast Plymouth - Portsmouth run I knew I had to go pretty quick as I had to be in the dockyard by 7.45. Hit the slip road from Marsh Mills at 5am and up the A38 at 120-140 (by my clocks) and got to Exeter in well under 30 mins so I figured I could give this a shot. Went full pelt all the way except for the few speed cameras that I knew were on the way. And... I've just put it through routeplanner and my mistake, it was 167 miles so an average of 87mph, humblest apologies...

I've had 4 205's all with wobbly speedo's. Makes my 0-60 time about 3 seconds

Absolutely lovely! I learned to drive in my mum's poverty spec 205XE in red (E31 UUK). Even the lowly 1.0 was brisk(ish) off the mark! Don't remember anything ever going wrong with it (apart from people stealing the C-pillar trim!). She sold it 10 or so years ago and there wasn't a spot of rust on it! Absolutely love it in white, completely standard, and that you still drive it. Trying to do similar with my Saab but there's always something needs doing! Huge respect for all those keeping any 80s icon on the road

Apparently it only affected RHD cars, as the cable had to 'cross over' the exhaust manifold which heated it up and caused it to dry the grease up. I got a new one and spent £90 on exhaust heat wrap on it, installed it and it worked until I sold the car years later!

Dont I know that bit about it being over the exhaust manifold.....i forgot to locate it properly when I fired Pugly up for the first time after the respray.....5 mins into her sitting there idling smoke and burning plastic smells.....oopp dont think it liked actually resting on the manifold!
