Thanks chaps. I've done 10k in it so far since purchase, and it's great for the task. It's not the most PH of engine choices being the diesel, but the power delivery does remind me of a torquey V8 in that it's so instant - it's like my old SL500, but with double the economy. None of that glorious sound though, can't have everything!

Glad it was just the condenser - I've been following the 330i thread with interest. They did a dye test on mine and it was a nice hole created by a stone.

Life continues, I've just carried out another service at the 70k mark. I'm aiming to service it roughly every 10k, which is every 6-7 months.

Everything bought off of Opie Oils, Millers Oil for the oil and Bosch for all of the filters - a bargain at £130 and a few hours on the driveway. Oddly I enjoy DIY servicing but can't do much else!!

Good stuff; I’m using Millers and Bosch filters in my 335i (and 330i). I half the BMW CBS interval which works out at circa 8k.

I enjoy doing it too.

And sods law re the wheel nut! I bin them ASAP now & refuse to run them; they're a liability IMO
Had this happen on my M140i when swapping my winter wheels over (last weehl, obvs!). Local BMW dealer relieved me of £100 to extract and supply a new set of 4 (and a technician video recommending I don't run one winter wheel and 3 summer ones rolleyes ), which I then had refunded when I complained to BMW Customer Services about it being a bit poor.

Good car smile Sailed through its MOT today, 17500 miles between MOTs which is a large increase on its time before me.

Recent picture from a trip to the Isle of Wight to celebrate. I may finally have some spare cash for some light modifications now that the wedding is out the way...

What I'd really like next is one of the Maxton splitters. Officially they only fit pre-lci cars, but I've seen a few people fit them with (apparently) minor modification. These are about £200 and I think help the front end out a bit -

I might get some spacers and refurb the wheels, but what I've really wanted is some BBS LMs. I have a choice of £800 reps or horribly expensive but lovely genuine ones and suspect I'll probably be naughty and purchase some reps and hope for the best...

IMO this looks great:

Not sure on the splitter personally; but the LMs would look superb. Maybe add in Eibach pro kit springs to drop the car a touch so it sits over them better (if you haven't already) wink

Agree re LMs and their pricing (as in scary); BBS CH-Rs would look superb on your 635D too; in 19s they'd be c£2.2k plus tyres on top; best part of £3k eek

However; BMAutosport have LOTS of alloys to choose from and they get really good wheels too; they're about the only compny I'd use for aftermarket wheels... I ran their 18" staggered LMs on my Jap import E39 touring with zero issues (until I decided I preferred how the car drove & handled on its OEM 17" Style 66s and then sold the LMs on)

I had their 19" LMs on a previous E39 530i Sport also:

Never had any issues with any of their wheels and my local roads are horrendous at best

Advantage was taken over the weekend of the nice weather, and I fitted some new spacers smile I was recommended the Bimecc ones, they're a bit more pricey but the quality seems very high. They also come with longer wheel bolts, and longer locking wheel bolts which is a nice touch.

All fitted without any dramas, I forgot to take any before / during photos sadly. A little snap at work today, the wheels are nicely up against the arches now - I went with 12mm front, and 15mm rear for reference.

As of yesterday, I've had the car one year now! I always now enjoy (perhaps the wrong choice of words) totting up the costs and work done over the past year and reflecting.

For balance, its been a busy year on a car that was previously doing very little mileage. When I drove it home last year it had 56000-ish on the clock, today it has 77000-ish. So a not insignificant 21000 miles in the year. Its been mostly great to be honest, the engine feels unburstable. Criticisms, jiggly ride for a GT car and some electrical niggles of late (more on that later).

Scores on the doors:

Thermostats - 05/12/22 - £180
Glow Plugs & Controller - 13/01/23 - £689
Service (DIY) - 22/01/23 - £105
Battery - 09/02/23 - £240
Front Tyre (puncture...) - 03/04/23 - £145
Windscreen - 20/04/23 - £125
Wiper Linkage - 19/05/23 - £24
Air Conditioning Condenser, Regas and Wheel Bolt Removal - 25/05/23 - £360
Front Tyres - 27/05/23 - £282 (Bargain)
Service (DIY) - 23/07/23 - £120

So, £2270 in maintainance and repairs!! Quite high, some of that is tyres and servicing of course. Things like thermostats and glow plugs hopefully shouldnt rear their head for a long while again.

On the to do list (ideally) is a gearbox oil change, I've had a quote from a specialist to do this and replace the figure of 8 seal for around £550 after VAT.

Niggles...

Two things of recent. One, randomly on some mornings less often then not I get a recirculating clicking noise on unlocking the car from the steering column shroud which I've captured on video (turn up the volume and ignore all of the additional sounds I manage to make prodding things!).

https://youtube.com/shorts/8DyaaLIrBxg?si=g8fLZh6m...

The other, key fob shenanigans. Yesterday morning my usual key fob wouldn't unlock the car. On grabbing the spare, the car then unlocked - tried the original key again and it was fine for the rest of the day? Odd. Tried again this morning and had the same thing! Could this be the original rechargeable batteries in the fob's coming to the end of their life, or something more nefarious?

Maintenance continues, it ticked over to 80k on Friday evening on the way for a curry smile

Leaves removed from the scuttle panel after it had a flood right after I bought it, this is now a yearly task I've got on the list.

And oil changes for Millers C3 5W/30 again, plus a Bosch filter. I've booked it in for a gearbox service too at my local specialist in Alton, including the figure of 8 seal which is good to address on these ZF6 boxes. A bit spicy at £530-odd but it's not a DIY job I'd be happy with!

And a little Christmas drive I had with some mates down to Goodwood, as usual a bit of a mix! Old 930 911, a turbocharged NB MX5 and a Polestar biggrin

Clearing the leaves from the scuttle is definitely a worthwhile job. Flooded ECU’s and ABS pumps are zero fun (I found out the hard way).

I've just had the gearbox serviced this morning, genuine ZF kit done by a local specialist - they went the extra and had the figure of 8 seal replaced too which is located under the mechatronics unit. It has definitely made a difference, the original oil was in there apparently which is now 81000 miles old! In particular, between gears 1-2 was pretty jerky and its now Uber smooth.

Quite spendy at £560, but satisfying smile

I also tried and failed to remove some peeling rubber on the steering wheel, ballsed it all up and so I've got a CF cover over the top now. I think it looks pretty good!

The gearbox service is expensive, but it does make a difference. My 335i has been better since it was serviced.

That sounds like it was well worth it TBH!

Steering wheel looks good IMO
