Very tidy Coupe, made me think rather fondly of my two. I'm not really on FCCUK anymore (used to be a regular poster on there, but under a different name to this one), but glad to hear its still as helpful as ever.

Update; Last weekend I refurbished my headlight covers. I didn’t take any photos showing the condition of them before as I was pressed for time but they were humming to say the least! The lacquer applied at the factory was crusty and yellow with patches peeling off so it was time they were freshened up. Here are some shots taken during the refurbishment process;  The lacquer was sanded off using 800 grit wet and dry with a small amount of car shampoo added to a jug of water used as a lubricant. Once the lacquer was completely removed I went over the lenses with 1000 grit paper. I polished the lenses using three stages of Auto gleam Metal Polish followed by three stages of Brasso with a final three stages of PlastX. Here's a few comparison shots;   In these photos, the polished lens was due a final buff. Here are some shots with the lights re-fitted to the car;

That looks great, brand new. I might need to do something similar on my Scoob, but I'm going to start with glass polish first.... assuming they are glass...

With winter on its way, the car will soon be getting a top to toe going over. A refurbished, standard set of wheels will be fitted, the car will have a full service and a new rocker cover gasket is going on to stop a minor oil leak. I've also decided it's going to be lowered to reduce the gap between the arches and the tyres. I'm looking forward to seeing it closer to the ground, that's for sure! Oh, and just clarify I’ve changed my user name to something less... crap.

How did you do the rocker cover? did you spray the whole thing red and remove the paint from the raised bits with a sharp blade, mask off or some other magical method?
I've got one to do and am after an easy method thankyou please.

I sanded the lettering. Maksing off works too and is less effort to clean the cover after sanding.

Update; I've been hearing a flutter coming from the passenger side of the car. It's only noticeable when the passenger window is down but it's definitely there. It's a sure fire sign that my dump valve is knackered. The fluttering sound comes from the air passing back the wrong way through the turbo when lifting off the throttle. Although in my opinion it sounds nice, it don’t want to prematurely wear out the turbo so I'll be replacing the existing valve as soon as I get some spare time. The existing dump valve was already fitted to the car when I bought it. It looks to be a atmospheric dump valve made by Turbosmart. I'm not keen on the blue in the engine bay anyway so it's a good job it's not working I'll be replacing it with this Forge DV006 recirculating dump valve; It's a tried and tested unit on the 20vt and it looks like a top quality bit of kit, so I'm a happy bunny

gj88 said: Quick update; I've been thinking of having the car resprayed at some point, probably next summer as it has a few annoying marks here and there. The only trouble is they're not localised to one panel and with one being on the bonnet, by the time they're painted I might as well spray the whole car. I've been looking at improving the paintwork until next year so I spent most of the afternoon giving the car a thorough clean. Here's the results; I'll be machine polishing it in November to see if I can improve the final look of the original 13 year old paintwork. If I'm not happy with it then the car will be resprayed in time for next years sunshine Next job is to refurbish the headlights. Thats looks like a f king mirror! top work! plus you've made me want one now!

I really admire the way you're restoring this coupe. Results speak for themselves and I personally think it's modern classic worth keeping.

150bhp said: cool car mate, ive been thinking about one for a while now. is there enough room in the back to fit a childs car seat? ive currently got an audi a4 but was worried the coupe may be too small for a two year old in the back. nice pics btw. I've had 2 of these & have 2 kids, I'm happy to confirm they are surprisingly practical. Great little cars, still miss mine despite owning, & previously having owned, so called 'better' cars!

It's nice to see the car develop into how it once was and it's always good to receive compliments about it. At times the process becomes tiresome but the love soon returns.

Update; Tomorrow the car is getting a few Christmas treats. Firstly it's having a well deserved service with one of the best oils I could buy. Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 10W-50. I've been running it on Castrol Edge 5W-40 since I've owned it but I've wanted to step up the protection for a while now so the Titan Race Pro will do nicely. The new rocker cover gasket will finally be fitted which should stop that small pesky gasket leak and the Forge is going on too. I'm also having a refurbished set of wheels fitted which should tidy up the car no end. The current ones are pretty scabby to say the least with lots of paint peel kerb marks made pervious owners. Having seen a lowered Coupe recently, mine has looked odd ever since so the car will be lowered by 35mm all round too. I cant wait to see it! Having recently stayed back up in Midlands for my graduation I was greeted by a frozen solid coupe as I checked out of the hotel where I was staying. I'd forgotten to prep all the door, boot and fuel cap seals to prevent them from sticking so that's another job to do later this afternoon. It hasn’t been that cold in South Wales compared to the Midlands so I wasn’t prepared. It was literally frozen solid. I'll update with photos of the car sitting lower with it's new wheel once I've given it a wash.
