Has anyone here test driven these cars? And specifically the base 2.7 model? We have a 2.9 987 Gen2 and from the figures it appears that the 2.7 981 is of similar performance. I just wondered if anyone has driven a 2.7 because all the talk is about the Boxster S.
No they are not in dealers to drive until 5th May (offical launch date)

As I understand from my dealer the non-S has also been delayed a bit

The 'S' has been out on a number of test drives today from OPC Chester; I was offered a slot on the evening but couldn't make it.

Can anyone tell me what the option is on the configurator for a full leather dash? I can find leather for the instrument cowl and other parts but there does not seem to be an option that I can see for the entire dash in leather!

Interior tab, then for each seat choice the bottom option is Leather Interior. Tick that.

Really don't know what to think - had my heart set on white, but saw the Agate grey today and now thinking white may make it look cheap... mind you, the grey does look pretty corporate and a little boring with black interior!

Definitely after a PDK, is the sport design wheel really that much better than the standard one?

Don't fancy paying £950 for the 20" wheels either... has anyone seen the 19" - I'd imagine they look fine but haven't seen much talk about them.

Dual zone aircon seems a little unnecessary considering it's a convertible...?

I'm not fussed about PTV but PASM and chrono pack seem worthwhile alongside PDK.

My dealer did wonder that about black inside and aygate hence I've gone aygate outside and aygate/pebble inside!

All if the launch cars I have seen have had std steering wheel but there was a 997 turbo with the sport design one and I think it looks a lot better, less plasticky

I couldn't see the point in dual zone a/c in such a small car but then somebody on here pointed out that without it you don't have climate control and being the lazy bugger I am I wanted climate!

.
In my eyes, if you are going PDK then the sport design wheel, which has the separate up and downshift paddle, is the way to go.

Should I pull the trigger that's exactly what I shall be ordering. I've had 2 manual Boxsters in the past and said I'd never go anything but manual in a sports car... but times, they are a changing!! Must be reaching 49 too wink

I've never quite understood the difference between air-con and climate control; can someone please enlighten me?

CC - you set the desired temp and the system regulates it automatically.

AC - it blows cold air until you stop it by hitting a button,

dont see the point in a convertable other than demisting in the winter.. if its warm enough to have the aircon on the roof should be off wink

I used to think that until I drove my Boxster from the UK to Tuscany during a heatwave. I could only drive roof down in the late efternoon/evenings unless I wanted to fry and the CC was a godsend during the day.

good point, my statement applies to the UK.. i had a convertible in Florida in May once as you say, in the mid day sun it was not fun!

Its not so much the Air Con part its the keeping the cabin at a desired temperature during the winter that appeals to me. Had the std AC in my Cayman and kept having to turn the fan up and down and mess with the heat control. In a car with climate I just set it at lets say 20 and leave it there.

someone put me out of my misery frown

I attended the preview evening at my local OPC last Thursday evening, and after months of viewing online videos / photos the car, as expected, did not disappoint...so down went the 3k deposit to ensure I got what they described as the last June build slot they had available and away I went happy as a sand boy.

The sales guy told me that I should crack on with getting my spec together, which I have done, but for the life of me I cannot decide on colour combo !

My last 3 cars (Gen 2 Cayman, New GTR & Evo X) have all been white with dark wheels, so I was determined this time to move away from white and was thinking about this colour combo :

Red exterior with Beige interior and Black Carrera S 20" wheels....see the link below for a real life visual :

http://gulfnews.com/life-style/motoring/test-drive...

It's a nice dilemma but my main issue is, will the Beige interior be too much, I mean it looks great in those pictures, but day to day, what do you guys think ?

any feedback appreciated.

I'm not keen - I'd take a black interior personally on a red car. But that's just personal preference, especially with black wheels (which I also don't like!).

Red, however, is a great choice - looks brilliant.
