You cannot do anything to porsche seats. Contrary to widespread myth, the leather from porsche (unlike, say rolls royce) is sealed, you can't and should *not* try and feed it. Just clean with clear water and v light soap and dry. copperman05 said: They look like pretty neglected full leather Recaro Poles, an example a to why you need to care for your leather seats.

Edd Who said anything about feeding leather? I said you should care for them, to say you can do nothing to Porsche seats is rubbish, you should keep them clean and free from the build up of dirt, otherwise they dry and crack up, as per the picture. Why you feel the need to tell me something I already know I have no idea. Edd

Genuine question as i must admit, ive never looked into this sorta thing, but if the leather is sealed, as suggested, how does the 'leather' dry out and wrinkle up like the pics?
Also, does anyone know where you can get replacement panels, either leather, nomex or other fabric from for the 996 GT3 Bucket seats?
Also, did Recaro manufacture them?

Also, did Recaro manufacture them? http://www.liquidleather.com/liquidl.htm Gliptone are one of the most popular leather care products out there, although 'sealed' your leather still needs to be kept clean to protect that seal, the problem with most leather conditioners is that they contain oils and greases that just attract dirt. Just like your skin leather needs to be moisturised (even sealed leather), a leather protectant should be used to protect the seal after cleaning with a dedicated leather cleaner. The modern way to clean and protect leather seats is to use wipes, these clean and protect at the same time. Dr leather wipes being the most popular. Re the panels, I suspect Southbound Trimmers could make you something, they re-trimmed my poles for me, the 996 GT3 seats are indeed made by Recaro I believe. Cheers Edd

Reproduced from another forum: "What is the top coat? Top coat is a protection coat to the color (pigment [paint]) coat. The finishes can vary from gloss, semi-gloss to matte. A top coat extends the durability, color, and life of the color coat by years and years (if proper care is taken). It also defines the total look and even feel of the leather. Top coats are also a paint, using the same technology as the color coat (polyurethane is one type)." You will find all modern nappa leather has this top coat seal, not just Porsche, it protects and prolongs the life of the leather by several times. Although it seals the leather its still needs care to prevent damage, drying out and cracking. According to Gliptone soapy water should NOT be used as it shrinks and hardens the leather. Edd

What would you suggest to maintain the leather? I've always used leather balm, this is obviously not the correct procedure after a read of the comments.

I would just use a dedicated leather cleaner like Gliptones (they do two, a heavy duty one and a milder spray type), although decent leather cleaners can also be had from Halfords (Auto Glym leather cleaner and Zymol Leather cleaner) if leather is old and cracked it may benefit from Gliptones conditioner too (which contains no oils) but most modern new leathers will not require it. Many on detailing world are now using leather wipes from Dr Leather, very good but you have to buy large quantities so may not be so practical. Edd

How's the stitching on yours?
