Inspiring stuff chaps.

I'm looking to do a trip with a mate in September. I think we'll have 4 days. Any rough sugestions for a 4 day route?

We'll probably be in my 996 GT2 if I haven't swopped it for a GT3 by then. Will a GT2 be OK on the train, that front spoiler is so low!

Thanks
James

You're fine on the lower carriage, taken my GT3 on there a couple of times.

I might be wrnog but I think a GT2 is quite a bit lower than a GT3 at the front.

That chin spoiler really does get quite tiresome at times.

Anyone any experience of doing it with a GT2.

James.

The tunnel staff should guide you onto the lower level of the carriage. ie it's flat getting on and off the train. If they don't just stop and ask to go on the lower level. There won't be a problem with this request. Under no circumstances be directed to the top level of the train, I scrapped a splitter on a 996TT getting off the train from the top level so now always go lower level.

thinking about this yes, we were sent to the lower train on both journeys

Just sat about planning my summer holiday trip to the Alps today. Very glad to see this topic turn up here - along with some great pictures smile

One question regarding tyres. I have a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 2 and Michelin Cup+ tyres for my 997 GT3.1 which we will be doing the trip in. We are heading out on August 11th racing down through Germany for hotel in Switzerland, then doing Flüela, Stelvio, Bolzano, then down south for Ferrari and Lamborghini before heading back up north for a trackday at the Nordschleife on August 20th - and then home.

How bad is the tyre wear/degradation from driving the alpine roads at sensible speeds - and how much is it increased with spirited driving? Also, how bad are the rain storms down there. do you think it would be impossible to complete the trip on a set of Cup+ tyres?

Are cup+ the cut slicks that are bad in standing water ? (ETA: just had a quick google and they don't seem to be the GT3 tyres that are really bad at aquaplaning)

I would stick with something that is good wet and dry. I use pilot sport 2 N3 (had a fresh set put on my 93 before the trip), tyre wear is small, nothing like trackdays, but it pays to have something that will be good in the wet and standing water. I just had grip everywhere even in the rainsoaked alpine passes and on steep downhill sections. Not a smidge of understeer all trip.

Cool.

In one of the pictures it looks like one of your number is about to eat a large loaf of bread with chips on a bed of lettuce. Surely this is carb overload? I I am not averse to a chip butty but that does appear to be OTT. Can you offer some explanation?

Perhaps that picture could be posted on the food restaurants forum.

Cheers.

Looks like a great trip.

Where you by any chance on the 15.36 Eurotunnel on Sunday? I guess not looking at the time you posted. I got unloaded and reloaded because of a technical issue with the train, it was total chaos, especially as the coach in font of me had emptied and some passengers where already a few carriages away...

Only saw one 911 (a 993) in two weeks including passing Le Mans a couple of days after the race, so I can imagine the interest from the police.

Looks like a fun trip. Having returned a week ago from a quick drive in h Pyrenees in my 1990 964 I can thoroughly recommend having a go at driving over in Europe we had fab weather, hardly any traffic and no BIB! As for he Chunnel they directed us onto the lower deck.

Wow!
Great trip Jackal.
I'm doing a very similar route in 3 weeks time. Calais - Nancy - Interlaken - Como - Annecy - Reims - Calais.
Doing it in my VW camper though not the Porsche.

Can I ask where you got your Swiss vignette from please? Do they sell them all over once you get nearer? A fellow P'header has kindly offered to lend me theirs but I'm worried about having to stick it on properly if I get a pull, as then I can't give them it back. Cheers. smile

PS. I'm surprised at you leaving any maintenance til the last minute. All that cleaning and you can't even be arsed to check your pads. hehe
