After months of wanting, waiting, watching and planning I will be in a position to start test driving and looking to buy in the next 3 weeks. Over the past few months I have seen a good 5/6 trade monaros with decent milage come up for sale and disappear. Now I am in a position to look seriously they have all gone. I was looking at a cv8 2004/5 at around 50k miles as a benchmark.
I have to buy trade as I have a px and cant be without a car due to NOTHING being local so private buying is out :-(.
Am I simply looking in the wrong places or has the market dried and prices risen?

I think we are now in the wrong time of year to buy a sports car. In the depths of Winter, people don't want to buy them. However, in late Spring through Summer, the demand rises, prices rise and, generally speaking, cars become more few and far between.

There is still this one still for sale with a trader. More miles than you wanted, but also newer than you were looking for.

More miles than you wanted, but also newer than you were looking for. no such thing as a "newer" monaro. all monaros made and exported to the uk where built between 2004 / 2005 (check the build date on the slam panel) they where registered between early 2004 and late 2007

You might convince Nickwaiheke to sell his Monaro, he was talking about it the other day. Its done high miles, mostly motorway though.

Saw that car. Too many miles really as im planning on running it for 5 years 9k a year milage.

Anywhere we drive to, isn't that far in the grand scheme of things. However, in Oz, a 3000km ONE WAY drive wouldn't be extraordinary... These cars are designed to cover a lot of miles. The LS series V8's are rock solid if looked after - the yanks have run them in various generations for, sometimes, hundreds of thousands of miles, with only minor repairs and consumables.... Not to mention their cars are generally heavier than ours, too.

Definitely feels different to when it was new. No mods either, 'cept for cat-back. Apart from a few things busted (like cup-holder and central locking playing up) it feels like new. Makes it very difficult to justify changing it. Great car, no complaints at all.

Ay I understand that the engines are not ur regular 4pots and will go for a long time its just a 100,000 mile car throws up the concern for regular repairs and the need for replacements parts a lot more often. Plus getting the head around a 100,000 mile car being 'just run in' is hard.
At 100,000 miles id expect a fair amount of wear and tear.

I got mine not too long back privately and had to shed my old car to fund it. As terrible as it sounds try the car liquidators (not necessarily WBAC, try cash4cars for instance) - if your current car is tidy and you show them it's desirable you should be able to manage trade value or very close...they're just looking to make £100-200 as a middle-man, though they'll obviously try to take you for more.
