I just got out the car and alarmed/locked it up, come back 5 minutes later and it started normal without safety mode... of course if yours starts doing it frequently then there may be an issue that one of the guys have already highlighted

Yes the best thing is to call the Fish once you have the codes and have those checked out... I have had the same problem lately... Safety mode warning and reduced performance flashes up... It could be a number of things but they say normally its the Throttle Body which is not that cheap... The Fish changed that for me but it came back again... so we knew it wasn't the TB.... the next thing to check was the wiring which isn't that big a job... but the problem for me is still there!! I have a supercharger and the wiring has an extension cable fitted to allow for the extra distance... this seems like a poor joint to me so i will be removing this join and hard wiring it all the way through... i hope this works.... When the warning comes up at the moment i turn the car off and on several times and then full power is restored... But be on the safe side and get those codes checked out... The Fish will give you more details of whats happening... Good luck

I have had this problem since owning my vehicle. I have had a new throttle body, a new PCM and have checked as much as the wiring I can and still have the problem. I don't know what to do next so if anyone has the answer PLEASE let me know! I'm thinking about changing the accelerator pedal but it's really just a stab in the dark?! I hope for you just changing the throttle body will fix this!

I tried restarting her again when I got home but it came back immediately. She hasnt been started in over 12 hours now so i'll give it a go again later, stay close to home and hope for the best. Still going to get the codes checked no matter what though.

What age is your Monaro? Is it 2005+ drive by wire or throttle cable 2004? If its a later one could be pedal sensor or throttle body The earlier ones have separate TPS on the throttle body Out of normal operating range MAF signals can also trip safety mode (assuming you've not gone mafless). Where you can get to the sensors clean/reseat connectors. You might get lucky. All guess work without error codes though. Good luck.

Shes a 2005 VXR with 37k on the clock. Ok, so i just tried her again for the first time since last night. Started fine and drove about 6 miles into town. Then going round a roundabout in 2nd gear she threw the same message again and went into safe mode. I drove to a carpark and turned her off. After 2 or 3 minutes i started her up again and drove back home with no problems. I know without fault codes its all guess work but does it sound familiar to anyone? Thanks for all your help so far guys.

Mine is a 2005 VXR as well., with 45,000 miles on it. It has an occasionsal bad habit of dropping onto safe mode, usually in warm weather or when it's got hot. Of course it is easy for me to say, but I wouldn't panic just yet. I realise you might be worried about buying a new car and it having a serious problem. If you have just bought it I would recommend getting it booked in for a service/once over. Not sure if it came with full service history or when the last service was and who did it. Someone on here will probably be able to recommend a local guy who can service these cars rather that a Vauxhall dealer. Mine is looked after a local independent specialist and he has always sorted me out without major expenditure.

Thanks guys. Just wondering if there were any more syptoms with the throttle body problem? She seems to run fine. The fault happens very randomly with no warning. I'm feeling a little better about the whole thing. At least she drives.

Most of the time, they just need cleaning.

I'm hoping because she has been sitting so long that it just needs a good clean. Oh and to answer DuncanDisorderly, she had a full service at a local Subaru tuner (who owns a Monaro himself) less than 200 miles ago. He also looks after Irish_Stu's car. So I'm happy that she has been serviced properly, its just that she has been garaged for a couple of years with no use. I'm sure a few things are bound to be a bit sticky.

Throttle body is mechanical so can't see it being that, maybe a throttle position sensor. All guess work till you get the codes read.

Getting the codes read on Tuesday. Just took her a cruise to Tesco's and back with no problems at all.
