So after weeks of travelling I finally got around to trying to change over my speedo cluster and fit my rear foglight switch. Trouble was nothing went right.
Firstly the Pomtiac GTO speedo cluster appeared to go well until it started throwing up fault codes left right and centre, and obviosly the wiring is completely different on the US GTO wiring loom than that in my Australia Monaro. So look as though we'll get the original Aussie speedo cluster modified with a new fascia and get the odometer reading in km changed to miles.
But that then brings me on to the next issue. I removed the centre console and discovered there is no 'spare' fog light socket. Bugger. Which means whilst I can wire one up, there is no way to get it ultimately up to the speedo cluster. I can get the new fascia plate to have the rear foglight icon be there, and there are a few spare slots under the speedo fascia where I can add a buld (although not sure what bulb I need or how to get or fit).
So throwing it out to the forum for your comments.
Life is never simple!!!!
Cheers

Darryl i would suggest getting your hands on a UK monaro cluster. has KHM and MPH on the dials (digital switchable), plus it will have the correct bulbs etc for the fogs.

So does the Pontiac one. But I think the loom must be wired up completely differently. For instance the light switch causes the transmission check light to come on, none of the dials registered properly, etc. Thanks for the thought though. Cheers Darryl

Darryl opps my bad.. i would have though an 04 UK cluster would have been ok. the ponitac gto are 05 models i think there was a few tweaks done between the year models. you could try giving wilkinshaw UK a call think they do speed converts, monkfish may do as well.

Why do you need a speed converter? You can tune the speedo in efilive or similar. Its a simple 5min job with zero hardware. Thats what I did in my GTS when the crap electronic mod died.

For the IVA/SVA testing - it has to be in mph. But as I say that is a straight forwards fix wit software as you say. The real issue is the rear foglight and wanting it to be wired in properly so that the switch also activates the rear fog light icon on the dash.
I will find a UK cluster just to try as well.
Cheers Darryl

As for the fog lamp cluster light, why not just get a switch that illiminates when it's on for now?

Thanks Mr Monkfish. Will do as you suggest but really just wanted to get the dash looking as neat as possible, etc. Not far away now. Finding that E85 on a temporary basis is reducing the CO emissions so that is all good.
Cheers

Whilst a big of an old thread I figured I'd let you guys know I finally got around to doing the IVA test on my Monaro. And all passed.
I eventually got a bespoke set of clock dials made (with the front and rear foglight icons and had an amber LED fitted to the dials for the rear foglight icon illumination), created a custom foglight with the poxy E marking on it, got the UK spec foglight internal switch all wired up as though it looks stock, passed emissions a piece of cake with some new cats (well my old ones were virtually hollow it turned out from daily abuse), and a few other bits.
So I'll get it registered and will try to join you lot on some southern based outings if possible.
Thanks to all for their advice. Now to find a nice numberplate I guess.
Cheers,
Leatherman

I was under the impression changing the pulse in efilive would cause other issues. Im guessing that's not the case. What will the l/100km read when calibrated? L/100m as it is now???

Could you post details of the clocks you had mad up? I'm fed up with my dash reporting errors since the FAST ecu was fitted and the ABS removed. This would be a good way round that problem.
