Just a thought - has anyone implemented a switchable butterfly valve on their exhaust system?

This is a system to control the sound output from the exhaust system which can be automatically switched in/out or manually.

I'm thinking about looking at this sometime, but don't want to bother if someone has already implemented it or found it too tricky to do.

A few of the guys in the HSV and Monaro section have done this.

I've done it in the past as well - on my old Supra and a past FTO - but each one had its own issues to get it right, thus the question for TVR system.

Ahhh!!! biggrin

Sorry, subtly is lost on me sometimes... Most of the time I have to deal with jester that need things spelt out exactly in infinite detail. As such, I've lost the art without thinking about it laugh

I hope that you're wanting to turn a loud exhaust into a ridiculously loud exhaust with the butterfly valve, rather than a loud exhaust into a quieter one......... wink

The idea would be that it could be one or the other at the push of a button or reading off my new ECU.

Still just thinking about it atm as a possibility.

I worked on a similar system for an e-type, we got as far as designing it, and making the two versions before the plug got pulled, I don;t know how much is transferrable but drop me an email if you want more details

I have a set of cutouts (as that's what they're called) on my Mustang. Can adjust from 85db to 120db+ smile

Remote controlled from a keyfob too. Quite a simple install really. Have a look on eBay/Youtube for 'Badlanz' cutouts. Charles (the MD) will sort you out if it's what you want.

How easy (or otherwise) is it to fit this.
I love the noise of mine, but would also like to be able to turn the volume right down for long distance travel (the boring motorway bits) and late night use.

Does it really give you a volume control??

Several mechanical and remote options available on the market.

You need to be careful though as the replacement boxes are often too large for Tivs.

If you want an auto one that is controlled by the ECU then it becomes more tricky and probably worth just talking to Firms like Miltech etc.

If you mean Milltek, they don't do one offs unfortunately. I've been lining up a few possibilities to talk to. Will see what their thought are. Thanks.

They might not but they have a wide range of units for getting the right size box and then it's only wires!. My understanding of this issue is that most systems are too chunky for a little sports car.

Wonder if ACT would help? I'm really impressed with their exhaust so far, but it could use some tuning...
