I'm not sure any of us would be good enough drivers to tell the difference in drag, which I guess is the only possible advantage to roof up. Roof down or up, IMO, makes no difference to rigidity. Despite the better ride quality, I thought you could tell even less in the V12VR that you were in a soft top yesterday and I had the roof down the whole time. It really is a mightily impressive car Apologies Jonby - I've just edited my post, the advice on the soft tops is always to track with roof DOWN !! That will teach me to proof read

jonby, silverspeed, Thanks for your driving impressions!
Now I really can't wait :-)
BTW: my dealer told me that production of my #002 (planned for Oct 13) was moved to Sept 3. Which would mean that they're working on my car at this very moment :-)

The difference in ride between a convertible and a coupe was something I discovered in my Porsche 997 turbo and cabriolet. I had the coupe initially and then changed it to the cabriolet when that arrived a year later. The ride in the cabriolet was more compliant and it also hugged corners better than the equivalent coupe due to the slight flex in the structure. Also the softer suspension set up of the turbo cabriolet made it much better suited to the British roads than the much stiffer suspension of the coupe which almost skidded round the corners on anything but the smoothest tracks. I guess it must be the same for the V12VR.

I have been told mine is in the first batch being built but this would go into production at the end of September. Perhaps when I go for my test drive next week they will have some good news for me as well

I would be surprised if you are in build as certain items like correct wheels were not on the test car today. I've calmed down a bit now after my drive! It was a very impressive car. Didn't put the roof up during the drive! No need suns out V12 orchestra and wind on my hair. Life doesn't get any better really. I'm still on line 15th October.

I guess it must be the same for the V12VR. I think there is definitely an element of that but I'm not so sure about the flex aspect - the Vantage roadster really is just about the stiffest structure out there of any drop top that has a coupe equivalent. I think until the advent of the new Mclaren spider which one assumes will be very stiff from the carbon tub, Vantage was pretty much class leading in that respect I suspect that it's partially simply down to a very long time to test, hone & refine the exact suspension settings & components because of course unusually by Aston standards, V12V Coupe specs have remained quite literally identical since launch and this is their first chance to make a change - remember Ian Minnards has been driving one of these for a long time now.

jonby said: Is there any chance you could e-mail me the pre-instagram photos? I'd love to put them online at http://www.astonregistry.com as this must be the 4th car given the 62 plate. If so, v12vr@shmee150.co.uk Thanks! If anybody else sees this car, a really quick photo of the VIN (lower windscreen) and plaque numbers (door sills?) would be very much appreciated.

The plaques are standard V12V Coupe plaques - un-numbered. I really do think it likely this and the dark grey one in Europe are not customer cars and will never be sold. VIN number ends 21060 - I didn't forget you Shmee ! :-) The photos were taken by Dunkie (Paul Dunk) who works at Stratstone Derby and posted links to these on his twitter account

Shmee, I am seeing it next Wednesday so will look for the VIN if someone has reported it before. I think Jonby said the didn't have a plaque number which is probably indiciative that it is a development car and will not count towards the 101 cars they intend to build.

Thank you for the help, I've added it already. The full VIN would be wonderful if possible in due course.

Is this the colour you're getting or is yours going to be more red?

That picture being a couple of weeks ago means it can't have been the latter; or perhaps with the trade plate on it could have been. ???
