Yikes. I was probably on the wrong track that they should have checked the noise limits everywhere, but the noise it puts out has to be a consideration when making a track-focused bike like this. It looks like Hobo might have to look into something that will seriously quieten it down in order to meet any of the noise limits here in the UK.

Find that surprising having been to a trackday at Cadwell Park where a Panigale was running, passed the sound check with no problems.

Just lie about the 5k revs, drop a plug lead off, or take a spare quiet red bike to get the noise test sticker on the screen wink

Always makes me laugh at TD's with the NIMBY 105db noise check limits, when a Tornado or Typhoon flies over at 200feet!

Or they have to stop the briefing at Donington to allow the Jumbo jets to pass over

Just spoke to MSV who said they had had a number of Panigale's on track events, some of which have passed & some failed. As standard they are very close to the 105db limit, with bikes so far they are aware of being between 104-112db.

Bit concerning taking into account that half the reason for its purchase was for track. They mentioned it is to do with the exhaust position which revurburates noise off the floor unlike other exhausts. Confused.

They have said it would be safer to go along to the track when an event is on & get it tested. I will be speaking with dealer later to see what thier thoughts are.

Where's the £20K figure come from?

The standard version is about £16K, right?

It is, but the S will be the more popular buy and that's £20k.

Last trackday I did at Oulton there was a 102db limit. It would be gutting to show up with a bog standard bike and fail, losing £200+ (TD fee, transportaion costs etc) in the process.

I would be seriously looking into getting an ACU license and only booking test days and just forget about regular trackdays if I was that position.

Not sure how the test days would help. I know at Brands the noise limits can only be relaxed for thirteen days a year. This is agreed with the council and locals. They tend to save those thirteen days for significant events posted way in advance like DTM/A1/BTCC, or track racing, the big earners. I don't think they relax it for testing sessions, although it could be different elswhere.

The number of 'noisy days' is quite a big thing with the locals. I know cos I'm one of them.

Going to test the bike in all three modes later today, just to see if there is any difference. Thinking that with different fuelling in 'wet' mode, that at 5k revs it maybe quieter than at 5k revs in 'race' mode. I will report back.

Then going to go over to Cadwell & get MSV to test if 'officially'.

I see track days advertised as "ACU test days" and assumed they were for ACU licensed racers to test their bikes prior to an event. No clue if race bikes being run by licensed racers are also noise tested, but I can't imagine that they are.

Of course if the ACU don't run any races at Brands then it's a non-issue.

They do test race bikes just the same and no relaxed limits as these are local issues, with local councils officials & residents to keep happy.

The irony as we've said of low flying jets, versus 105db noise tests race bikes!

I presume Hobo will be finishing off the running in period and has family near Cadwell anyway. Mark, if you're passing or planning a run out this weekend, drop me a text mate. Don't know if I have your current number as I left a voice mail a couple of weeks ago & no response.

We had that last week at Doni hehe

There was also a Panigale Tricolore with Termis on and it didn't seem to bother anyone.

It was a noisy day though. So no noise restrictions.

I think tracks are more lenient than others. At Brands there is testing before you go on and then a static test which is unmanned sitting on the main straight. If you trigger it I think the marshals are alerted to the problem.

Depeneding on the marshal you will be asked to feather the throttle on the main straight nod nod wink wink, if you continue to trip it after that they tend to get a bit more annoyed with you.

Or at least that seems to be what happens. Remember the licence for operating the track at all depends on them staying within their agreed limits, so although they are sympathetic they will cart you off if you are a persistent offender.

From experience feathering the throttle in a car isn't much fun when everything is passing you at that point, so its worth doing something with the bike if it is going to continually trip the meter.

I can see it from both sides, but the poster who said that a noisy bike day is like having an aeroplane going overhead is just daft. I live about two miles away from Brands as the crow flies, and on some noisy days you can't hold a conversation in the garden FOR THE WHOLE DAY, not just the ten seconds it takes for an aeroplane to go overhead, so I hate to think what it would be like to be near to Brands Hatch on those days.

I bet you were fuming when they built the track so close to your house, I know I would be.
