A few years ago, when looking for a new bike I tried to ride all the sports bikes that the local shops had in stock

'Best' bike I rode was a k4/5 GSXR 750...

I bought a '99 R1 because it made me grin like an idiot biggrin

i was tempted to trade in my street triple R for a multistrada 1200, but i found the engine quite agricultural, and the handling, although competent, was nowhere near as exciting as the triple. Ideally i'd like to have both, but i cant justify a 3rd bike, so sticking with the street triple R for the foreseeable future
It's a big twin it's moving two 600cc cylinders what do you expect, saying that it's probably the smoothest v-twin there is (1199 is probably smoother). I would agree on the handling but it's not apples for apples - I have a Multi 1200 but that replaced my KTM950SM which would kill it on the handling side but practicality wore through.

yes

But not too fast to make you ride like you stole it.

Best all round road bike ive owned, Hayabusa.

Most exciting road bike, my old tweaked RG500 Gamma.

Most practical was a Bandit 650, all the others I've had were totally impractical for roads, especially the S1000RR, but I don't care. I started riding late, so have some catching up to do.

Honda Firestorm with sorted suspension and fuelling is best bike I've ridden for UK roads.

Skinny, not too heavy, not too light, smooth, loads of grunt, not too much top end, good two up.

Not ridden latest Multistrada but I like the idea of that sort of bike, also KTM SMT. I'd be interested to see whether throttle response is appropriate for a road bike and whether motor is a bit too much for road use. 14 grand is something I couldn't ignore either.

There was kind of no need, it just surfed a wave of torque and power. I would regularly see 110-120 on the clock and have less wind buffet than the Speed Four at 70, too.

The best for me was my FZR1000 Exup, mainly because it was my first litre sports bike, its subjective though, my current Fazer thou is pretty much the ideal all rounder and my old Speed Triple made me smile the most when riding it.

I don't think I have tried enough bikes yet.

Moto Guzzi Lemans mk1 I can remember was really good back in the day.
Can remember seeing 155mph on the clock back in the 70s on mine, the Veglia borletti clocks were really optomistic though, top bragging rites though at the time.
A Honda 750f1 at the time was all out at 115.

My K5 GSXR 1000 is the best, but my 2004 Mille was by a long way the nicest. I felt like I was wearing it, as opposed to riding it.

The 998, without a doubt.
Closely followed by my Mille and then the Blade.

The Mille has a reputation as being the poor man's Duke. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but I did like that bike, so much so that when it was stolen, I kept pestering the police to do something.

A friend who owns a bike shop, said I should advertise in the Buy'n'Sell;
"€500 for the safe return of a black and red Aprilia RSV Mille"

I remember in a Garda station, the fat cop on the desk clearly didn't give a rats,
he went off and when he came back he told me someone from the xyz squad would be out in a moment.
I then said "someone who cares?", he actually replied with a smile and said "yes".

I was ushered into an interview room, and sat beside a breathalyser the size of an industrial fridge.

I gave her the details of the guy who replied to the B'n'S advert; he had made the mistake of calling me 33 times, but did so once from a phone with caller ID turned on. Clearly a shoe size IQ.

The cops went to the house and found the bike and finger printed it.

Turns out the bike theft was by the niece of a *major* criminal, of the religious kind. I was asked to attend court, but as the court can't maintain anonymity, and I value my family's safety I backed away. I was ashamed, but the police admitted they couldn't keep us safe.
