Apologies if this has been done to death, the search as usual showed little.

I have been looking at an A6 for motorway munching. I want some toys as I will be spending a fair bit of time in the car. Most I had seen had the MMI 2G, and come had the upgrade colour screen. I have seen one in budget which is newer and has the MMI 3G low. I can find what the difference between Low and High is on the 3G.

I want sat nav with a colour map, iPod playback with ability to use the audio controls to change tracks, and bluetooth phone connectivity with contacts imported. Will the Low do all of this? If so sounds like it is perfect for me and no need to spend more on the High?

What age of A6 are you looking at? Low and high not necessarily the right terms.

C6 A6 facelift 09-11

DVD navigation (MMI 3G) is standard except for the very first facelifted cars and bluetooth is standard. AMI (iPod) is a cost option.

HDD navigation (MMI 3G) is a cost option and includes a DVD player and hard drive juke box. Maps are nicer quality and include 3D buildings in major city centres. AMI (iPod) is a cost option.

C7 A6 late 11 on

MMI Navigation (SD card) is standard. Bluetooth is standard. AMI (iPod) is a cost option.

MMI Navigation plus (hard drive) is a cost option with much the same features (plus a few more small ones) as HDD nav above. AMI (iPod) is a cost option.

The packs (i.e. tech pack high and low) are different again...

Message me with the year of car you're looking at and I'll send you back the relevant brochure so you can see exactly what's what.

If it helps, my car has 3G MMI which came as part of the tech pack. Its a 2007 LeMans

It has a dvd based nav, and colour DIS, bluetooth, cd multichanger (option)

Great motorway munchers and business centres smile

A 2007 car will be MMI 2G.

DVD nav on a 2007 car includes MMI high.

I kept the brochure from when I ordered the car so should have cross referenced.

Before they facelifted the A6 and revised MMI it wasn't referred to as 2G or 3G - it was just called 'MMI'.

I suppose technically it's still called that, it's just an adopted name to differentiate between the versions.

Thanks to Dr G for the info. thumbup

I bought the car woohoo

It is an early face lift so no sat nav. It does have two SD card slots though so that will do instead of the iPod connectivity. Main bonus is it has leather, most I had been looking at had cloth interiors. Garage is doing the full cambelt kit for me gratis to.

Can't wait to get back to Audi ownership. Have had an A4 and A6 Avant in the past and been bored stless by my current Honda.

Adding Satnav isn't the most major job going, main thing is the cost of a suitable drive. A DVD unit is about £3-400 on its own.

It's an OK system, main handicap of the DVD based system is the inability to add speed camera info. I believe you can add them to the HDD based system, but I'm not 100% on the workings of that one.

Do I just need the DVD drive? Is the GPS and everything contained within that?

Such as this:

400 notes is a bit steep but I guess I could get a bit back by selling the CD changer it replaces?
