I don't understand why Range Rover 'have' to be luxury cars...?
Hell, I wish LR would bring back the traditional 3-dr Rangey as per the original - I have one in a shot. I was kind of hoping the Evoque (or a version of it) would be close to this ideal..... but I suspect this won't be the case. It needs a decent engine other than a 4cyl.
I still quite like them though and I give them serious consideration in a few years time, as my gradually degrading back injury will probably require something with a more comfy, arm chair driving position that isn't low to the ground.

Im not sure whether I like it or not (I have seen one up close at the MIRA proving ground months ago) but all you clowns slagging it off need to get a grip if they really have 18000 on order. Sounds like its going to be a massive sucess, and fair play to LR especially if its providing 1500 jobs for the U.K. If you want a traditional RR, buy one! This is a different market and well done to them for thinking outside the box.

On the whole I like it. The interior is very good IMHO. The exterior is a success apart from the rear. Does it dilute the Range Rover brand, I think so. But it appears that everyone wants a Range Rover badge, this offers them the chance. For me it is very feminine and even though I always thought I'd get one, I have no such desire.

FFS the base evoque is not even 4x4? porsche were the first to break the 'mould' with the 924/944 carrying the badge - took the quite a few years to loose the stigma?

I'm not sure how expressing an opinion or questioning where the Evoque fits in the RR line-up equates entirely to slagging it off nor indeed makes anyone a clown, but hey, if pious name-calling flicks your switch, crack on.....Cockbag.

J May of Top Gear House, BBC Road, London would appear to disagree with you. Last night's offering sure did put it in a good light and none of LR's legendary off-road capability seems to be compromised. Like other though, naming it a Range Rover is a bold move when it's, give or take, the same size as a Freebie. When you say "Range Rover", people automiatically think of a big car.

yes i watched top gear also.you missed the point.its not a range rover.its got all the gadjets you could wish for but thats where it looses the plot.the roots of the original range rovers would go anywhere without all the tech stuff to go wrong and it was down to the driving skills of the person behind the wheel.its just another car that might go on the grass once in a while and could be made by any other company.

It's called Progress. Older classic RRs rely on driver skill as you've said, and that adds up to fatigue in a good driver, and simple mistakes in a bad one. Surely anything that makes driving the car easier and simpler has to be a good thing? Or are you one of those real-ale drinkers who think the ability to drive a Range Rover away from tarmac has to be "earned"? Sure, other manufacturers probably could make it, but they haven't, LR have and judging by last night's performance (of the car, not James May although he's pretty good also) they've built a world-beater. It'd be interesting to see a Rav4 or Grand Vitara bomb across Death Valley at 70mph+. Evoque looks like a great vehicle in terms of both styling and ability, the only weird bit is where LR have positioned it in their line-up.

Very true & if LR / RR had stuck with it they would be in oblivion right now. While the RRS may not be what you want from a RR, it's a runaway success. I suspect the Evoque will be the same. There is NO major market for what you describe. It's a niche market, if you want that buy a defender.

I crawled all over them at Goodwood. I have experienced a FL2 on a Land Rover experience day and it CAN do proper offroad (albeit on a carefully engineered course by LR). The Evoque apparently has better approach / departure angles than FL2 so the 4wd evoques should be better than FL2. However in the Evoque you don't sit in a high, "commanding" position like every other LR. It feels just like a car - this is my criticism, I'm sure for many coming from cars it is a positive attribute. The cabin is very nice (not FFRR but definitely a couple of notches above FL2). Range Rover has been a "sub-brand" for some time now (since RR sport?), not just a vehicle. All indications show they are clearly going to sell like s t slides off a shovel. How long before we see a hybrid evoque?

Bearing in mind this is the LR forum, can we just confirm you mean some sort of electro-lentil mumsy truck, and not something made from scaffolding, mounted on a S2 chassis fitted with steel Rostyles wearing tractor tyres, being flung at the scenery round Tixover?

If the the Orange skinned audience want it, and the manufacturer's can make money out of association with fashion houses and celebrity then why not? There in business to make money. Doesn't sit well with you personally - Does it emasculate your position as a 4x4 driver/owner?
