Not sure, but a friend is having it installed next week I think, so can report back after then.

I just ordered this today - 18mbs down, 6mbs up for £40pcm.

Took me 2 hours to download a 100mb file last night on our current BT "broadband" which was the final straw.

Can't wait!

Hi, where did you order it from at that price?

Tooway Direct charge £54.99 for that service.

My experience of satellite is that the pings are shocking so generally lead to a sluggish feel whilst browsing and virtually unusable for anything that requires low ping times like games and to a lesser extent VoiP telephony. For downloads speeds were good as once the stream gets going it can maintain maximum bandwidth.

That combined with the price (£60 for only 50gb) made it a no-go.

You're absolutely right but, tbh, i'm not fussed about online gaming (apart from downloading 100mb car packs for forza on XBL and that doesn't need a low ping) or VOIP.

I got it from toowaybroadband.co.uk and it was actually £45/month, not £40 - my mistake.

No idea if 26gb would be enough but, with the transfer rate we're getting from BT it would take 21 days to download 26gb and I'm nowhere close to that so I figure it will be enough for our meagre needs!

I find going to bed or having a cup of tea speeds up downloads no end

Installed this morning and...

Holy fk it's good. I downloaded a car pack for forza4 last week on bt broadband, 110mb, took over 2 hours. Downloaded another just now, same size, took less than 2 minutes!

Very professional installer, very tidy.

So far, I'm very impressed.

That's because the little packets of internet need to travel up to the sky and back down, roughly a 600ms trip.

750 here. No use for online gaming but I really don't care. It's no match for fibre but hugely better than my old crappy rural copper.

Apart from gaming, is there anything else that the latency would rule out?

Ah yes.

Mrs Whoami uses Skype quite a lot. That might be an issue.
