I've just done a web chat thing with HTC support. She didn't know why it was like that so did I soft reset. All that's done is make it think it's 6th January!
Looks like hard reset is the only option frown

Gutted.
I lost mine today. No idea how. Lost it between the car park at Newport Pagnall M1 North services, Starbucks, and back to the car, all within 5 mins. Rang it and rang it and rang it off another phone while retracing steps, and no sign of it. So with sinking heart, I had to leave it.
A friend at home called Orange for me, and explained what had happened and they put a temp bar on my phone, and said I had to call to confirm when I was able. I did, and it has now been bricked.
I am not worried about contacts and messages etc, as they are all backed up, but there are loads of emails in there, and pictures, and diary entries too! I have no idea if it being bricked by Orange will just render it unable to be used with another SIM, or if it actually locks down access to everything. They are sending me a new SIM and a proof of purchase for Insurance purposes.
I called insurance people and made a claim. Up to 10 days before I get a new phone. Have to wait for them to post the docs, then I have to fill them in and post it back. It will then be processed, and a new phone sent to me. The chap I spoke said he didn't think that they had any Desires in, and asked if I would be happy to an upgrade spec if that is the case. I asked what it would be, and he said they would call and discuss it with me on the landline.
What would an "upgrade" to a Desire be currently do you think? Not sure I want an HD. Is an "S" an upgrade?
Whatever I receive, it can't get here soon enough.

ARGHHHHHH! So annoyed.
Just been told that there are no Desires, so I am to be offered another handset. I will find out at half 12 what I will be able to have. I asked about waiting awhile and having a Sensation, but they can only offer what is actually available now.
I know the Desire S is an option, as is the HD. I think I would go for the S, as it is a bit smaller than the HD I believe.
Is that right?
I assume that I will be able to use all the back ups I made on the Desire on whatever replacement I have as long as it is Android?
Not looking forward to remembering what I had on there and getting it back to how I had it. Bring back the days before smart phones, when we were impressed with simple things like being able to send a SMS. Much easier then. We are spoiled now.

Oh dear.

No Desire S or HD. I have been offered a Desire Z, or a Samsung S8530 (Wave 2).

I am not familiar with either, so have no idea what to choose. I am going to look them up to see what takes my fancy, but any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Try clearing caches. Either download an app to do this (may not be possible due to low space) or go in to Settings > Applications and clear caches by app. The browser, ant rss readers and the market itself can be big memoy hoggers with their caches

I've done this on mine and the caches were pretty much empty.

I think Android has a memory leak issue of some sort. I don't think you should have to hard reset your phone every few months. If you do have to there should be a proper full backup option.

Mate at work has a Desire Z, quite a heavy lump compared to the Desire and I definitely wouldn't have one. Probably never use the slide out keyboard anyway.

Don't know about the Samsung Wave 2, I'd wait until they have the Desire S back in stock.

There must be a problem somewhere with the speed it shot down. Everything is gone on mine. I hoped that apps saved on my SD would be saved but sadly not frown

Sorry noob problem. I tend to use the microphone on google as my voice dialing.

It works great and voice dialling to me is an essential.

Trouble is the google voice dialing only seems to work by using an internet connection. If no internet it can't voice dial.

Any way to sort this out.

I have looked into the two, and I have declined both. I told them I considered them, especially the Samsung, as a downgrade. Totally different OS, very few Apps and would not be compatible with my Android back ups etc.
I am now on some sort of a waiting list, and they are going to try and get either a Desire or an S. I said I would be happy with a Desire, but the only alternatives I will accept is the S, and a HD at a push.
Had I used Orange care, I would have had a replacement the day after I lost it. At £6 a month though, I would be well out of pocket for the claims I have made. So I use the free insurance through my Bank account. There is a £30 excess, but I think that is a bargain. However, it is not as fast Orange Care.
Its frustrating to say the least.

mine did similar this week, i've uninstalled loads of apps that I never use, cleared internet cache and now have 51mb free.
try checking
applications
running services.

also I know this might sound daft but have you shut it down and restarted the phone? and I don't mean factory reset.

I did it all. Even taking the battery out while it's turned on (recommended by HTC). Regularly cleared cache, don't store masses of emails etc. It literally went 17 to 7mb in 5 seconds.

I've gotten my phone back, after 9 working days, nearly two weeks without it. Everything was fine, besides the fact that they didn't tell me that it was being returned to me.

Just got to get everything back on it now and wait until 2.3 comes out.
