HTC Desire

Thanks to Funk too but unfortunately mine didn't go as smoothly as cuneus. Even though I had Funk's very thorough guide, I had issues from the getgo. The SD card just couldn't be read by my laptop, had to do it via my media centre which is hooked up to my TV.

Also doing the root didn't quite go to plan, but I sorted that out. Finally sorted out the SD card issues and even though I'd backed up with appbrain and did a titanium backup, couldn't restore apps etc, no biggie as all my contacts/emails etc are on exchange and I use touchdown for that. So just had to remember my apps and reinstall.

My Asus tablet has a lovely backup/restore feature via the market, wish HTC had one too.

Anyhow, I can't wait to enjoy the 1gb space for my apps

o2 sent me a txt earlier stating they were going to cap my internet due to excessive usage.

I've had the unlimted web bolt on for about 5 years, before they changed their policy.

Can I do anything about this?

I'd be telling them that you have an 'unlimited' bolt-on and that if it's not truly unlimited then they're guilty of mis-selling and you'd like to be refunded what you've paid and given your PAC code so you can move to another network.

Interesting; seems the issues we all had weren't really anything relating to the process that much; I had SD card issues too (a new card reader sorted that) and aside from the minor niggle with rooting, everything else went as it should have done once I worked out what I'd done wrong.

Hope the walk-through was helpful (and for anyone else who's thinking of doing it).

Go for it, the low meemory has been bugging me for months, but I just was't prepared for the whoel rooting process etc.
Since Funk took the plunge and put up his help guide I decided to give it a go. Overall I knew it would be a PITA at times but the end produc tis well worth it.

Apart from SD card issues the other tip would be the steps in getting unrevoked onto the Desire. You need to uninstall HTC sync, but not the other HTC drivers etc. Also you need to turn the phone on, run unrevoked and then connect the phone to the pc via USB, then unrevoked does it's stuff.

For me I use Touchdown, which has all my emails, contact and calendar etc. But I still had to re-install al my apps manually as appbrain just didn't work for me. No biggie, but added another hour of fiddling (which I enjoy) to the overall process.

In conclusion, DO IT

Well I'm quite frankly amazed.

I logged onto the web chat and spoke to an adviser. They initially claimed that I did not have the unlimited web bolt on as they had stopped offering it. I asked them what exactly it was I had - threw in a few sentences regarding policy changes and what do you know, I have my data access back.

I think I was using roughly 5-6GB a month as I stream alot of videos. Do you think I'm taking the piss?

Did you do a Titanium Backup before loading the ROM? If so you should be able to do a restore, what issue are you getting?

Make sure you have the right SMSbackup app the are several with similar names. I ahev used SMSBackup+ and had no issues doing a restore.

I tried some today, got a desirehd rom working with data2sd but was unsuccessful with leedroid gb and a.sense 3.0 one. Love being able to put it back in a few minutes though!
