Yep, I'll be snapping one up at that price, especially given my work discount. White I think.

(I remember someone talking about it on the mac forum) Found the thread http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=11184...

I'll be ordering one, though I'm unsure about the 3g.
If I were to purchase the non 3g version, can a jailbroken 3g act as the 3g donor?
I understand a standard iPhone 4 can do this, but I don't have the 4 (or a 3gs), not sure when the contract is up for renewal (work phone).

I really think the 3G iPads are an utter rip off, there is no way that 3G chip is worth an additional £100!

What time on friday will they be available to buy and which of the retailers are going to have stock? I've got someone coming round to buy my ipad 1 on friday at 7:30pm so would like to get an ipad 2 before then.

5pm I read somewhere, as most places are open to 9pm, you could go once you've got the cash from the buyer of your original iPad.

RichyBoy said: But don't you already get gps with the wifi version or am I missing something? No - you only get a GPS chip in the Wifi+3G version. In the Wifi-only version, there is a location service which attempts to derive a position from the available Wifi networks, but it isn't a GPS fix.

The location through WiFI is usually spot on for me. Granted its no good for using it for sat nav, but its perfectly adequate for most location based services.

Goes on sale at 1am on Friday on apple store. Why the stupid time? I like apple products generally but the spin and selling stunts that the company uses makes me dislike Apple. Ohh look at the queue's aren't we cool, all line up now to suck Steve Jobs's ego dick. Just put the f king thing on sale so adults can buy it please?

Why the stupid time? From a server load on the Apple Store perspective, it makes sense - if they're expecting a huge demand. Announce a time during waking hours and there will be any almighty peak in load at around that time - make it available in the middle of the night, and allow the load to ramp up more gradually during the morning.

Exactly what I was thinking. The die-hards will be on there at 0101 and the server load will be high, but not everbody. Then the likes of joe bloggs will order theirs from the office at 9am. If it went on sale at 9am it would be a much higher peak.

Annoyingly I can get a discount on most Apple stuff, but not the ipad. I'm tempted by an ipad - some good mindmapping software means I can use it as a serious content generation tool rather than just as a library for photos etc. Expecting the prices of the ipad1 to drop significantly and wondering for the use I'd put it to if its worth snapping up a cheap/refurb 1st gen.. I don't *need* an ipad2, but oooh look, shiny new Apple gadget.. Luckily I'm too busy with a house and job move to spend hours queuing over the weekend..

Simon - they already have, and are selling out quickly (if not already). The 16gb Wifi refurb is £289 and well worth it at that price. With not a massive difference between ipad 1 and 2, if you won't use any of the extra features then save yourself £150 and go with the 1 Just do it now before they sell out, of course.
