On a T/D, on the twisties, I was always bracing myself against the door/transmission tunnel etc!
I am sure proper race seats give more lateral support, but I wouldn't want that for road driving.

Just to show you another option, I fitted MX5 seats in to mine.
No real difficulties in fitting them and they are far more comfortable than the originals

when i tried them, they fitted the original bolt holes too.....but in my case, reduced headroom just enough to cause me to notice the roof against my head....No real difficulties in fitting them and they are far more comfortable than the originals
