My attention has been drawn by the sound of the Triple I was pillion on for the TT trip.
Looking at Street/Speed Triples. just thinking out-loud at this stage, but on paper I think the 675 would be too weak so I'm naturally drawn towards the 1050....really did love the sound of the one I was on.
I'd need to blag a run on both and take it from there
anyone ridden both? thoughts please?

The (2011-onwards) 1050 is a better everyday bike than either 675-engined bike. They're all just as quick really, they just make their speed in very different ways. Mine will hopefully be properly up for sale very soon… I found out today how much the 12,000 mile / 2 year service costs... £550 I think it's 'only' £400 for the 675 engine. ETA: They're all brilliant bikes. I'd definitely go for the 1050 if you're taking a pillion or are tallish.

1050!!!
I rode the 2011? model. The one with the new lights. Fecking fantastic. The brakes are awesome. I'd never been able to do stoppies on any of my other bikes (pre supermoto!) and this thing turned me into a stoppie god. Just incredible feel from the Brembos. Has all the grunt where you need it. Only thing which put me off was the price and slightly agricultural (compared to smooth Honda) gearbox.
Great bike.

The pre-2011 1050s are meant to have a fair chunk more torque low down (at the expense of top end). Do it! I'm looking at even earlier 955s to replace mine next year.

Simple 1050 2008-2010 Speed Triple. Go test ride one! The 2005-2007 1050s like the one you pictured have inferior brakes and different wheels. The brakes on the 2009 1050 Speed I rode were stunning and for me would be the model to have.
A mate has the Sprint ST 1050 so have ridden with this engine a lot and really love it as a real world everyday road bike - its simply effortless to ride and gain speed from very low revs quickly and sounds great too.

I prefer the look and although I never carry a pillion the 1050 is too stubby for me.

I'm fairly sure the 1050 will be a fair step ahead in terms of handling, reliability and grunt, but I can't get the idea of a cheap Speed Triple out of my head. I quite fancy turning a Daytona 955i into a track bike (as PB mag has done) or a Cafe Racery type thing. ETA: Gratuitous shot of mine. New job needs a company car which needs lots and lots of petrol, so this will have to go. To be honest I'm finding the whole 'find cheap 2nd hand bike' classifieds game much more fun than buying new!

Fresh oil and filter Fresh coolant Fresh brake fluid New air filter New fuel filter New plugs and seals Check all the shims in the valve train and replace as required (has to be done with a cold engine) Balance the throttle bodies Strip and lube the rear hub and rear wheel bearings, this is the expensive bit. A 955i in either Speed Triple or Daytona form is just as expensive.

I have a Tiger 1050 and the servicing can be slightly expensive sometimes, but the machinery is awesome and way more fun than the Japanese equivalent IMO.

Pothole said: really want a 955 next, too! I sold a mint unmarked yellow 2001 955i last year, with a genuine 9000 miles from new for £2250, with no faults whatsoever...they are as cheap as chips, cost around £8000 when new. Highly recommended.

I do, but it just f ks me over when i'm on the Continent Just to make sure my tinkering wasn't going to bugger me over in France, I spent about £1000 getting it sorted (carbs & electrical issues + a health check to make sure nothing glaringly obvious was wrong) before heading over, and the b h still let me down and left me riding pillion with Bobski. £550 for that is a good price, there's a fair amount of work there. Some people don't have the time or energy to do it, especially when things go wrong- and they do, well, they do in my case

A was genuinely asking if the older ones are better bikes. tbh they all look much the same..they are all twin headlight streetfighters. Apart from the first ones, I never liked them even when they were new
