Some kind person put in the rear screen of my R8 last night, a fist size hole that looked like it had been caused by a brick or something.
So having spent the last couple of hours today clearing up the broken glass, which of course has got everywhere, thoughts turn to getting it repaired. The few questions that immediately come to mind are:
1. Process it through insurance or pay myself? 2. How much? 3. Were all cars supplied with the same tint? (Mine is an 09 car) 4. Who to do the repair & how long am I likely to wait? 5. How is the vent in the rear shelf fixed? (I need to empty it of pieces.)
And on top of all that it was raining last night and so back shelf and trim are wet. Great start to the day!

Unfortunately car envy is one of the uglier sides of a dysfunctional society. I'd bring back hanging for the little f kers. Might be worth sending a PM to "glassman" on here, I know he's help out people before. Best of luck getting the window [and some kneecaps ] sorted.

2nd shout for Glassman, gave me loads of good advice when I started having problems with autoglass and my R8 windscreen.
Hope you get sorted soon and can't stand the scum who do this to someone's P&J.

I think the rear screens on Monaro's are stupidly expensive. I remember a conversation I had with a fitter mate of mine, he done I think rear windows and rear screen and charged the insurance company around £2500 I think. I remember nearly falling over when he said it anyway!

Had my Monaro rear screen replaced in February after it smashed, I know this is for your VXR8, But had mine replaced through insurance for £70 screen excess. "Auto windscreens" sourced a rear screen that took a week but was eventually supplied by Vauxhalls (on the shelf) Rear screen took 4 hours to fit and couldn't fault the job which included removing rear seats and interior panels to clear up all glass. Bill to insurance company was under £600 Good luck Rich

Thanks for the suggestions guys, Glassman is on the case and I have also asked Raving. Drove home from Manchester to Wiltshire this afternoon, despite weather warnings and floods through the Midlands etc I managed to make it home without so much as a drop of rain. Insurance excess is £650, ouch, not had a good run of luck with this car this year!

I don't know if I can help you. I don't know what the individual wants or what their motive is and I can tell you I don't have any knowledge on replacing VXR8 rear screens, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like them. If they leave your car alone, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for them, I will not pursue them, but if they don't... I will look for them, I will find them, and I will kill them. Sorry to hear about your car and the badly edited movie clip above!

Insurance and glass cover is changing. Windscreens are getting bigger, more complex and from a costing/indemnity POV, dearer. If the inscos don't take such claims into consideration for renewal, they'll get the policyholder - it seems - to pay in the event of a claim.
