If you just remove the carbs from your plate, you won't feel as if you've had a meal. Replace with veg. You can eat absolutely massive amounts of (non-starchy) vegetables for minimal calorie intake. A decent bit of meat or fish and a massive pile of cabbage, kale, brocolli, runner beans, etc at least feels as if you are eating properly. Even carrots have sod all in them really. This. A couple of years ago I went from 16st to just over 13st by reducing the booze intake, reducing portion size and exercising more. I keep a cursory eye on calories even now, and I stay around 13 1/2 stone. Keeping track of what you consume is the biggest step. Amazing what you do eat when you don't realise. Plenty of online / apps available.

Actually I think I'm slightly wrong on that point. It's sweet dessert wines you need to avoid because of the high carb content. Apologies.

Me & the Missus had a photo taken back in February and when I looked at it I thought 'You need to do something'!! Back then I was 6'6" and 16 stone...doesnt seem a lot for my height but it was all round my face & gut! Now I am still 6'6" (believe it or not LOL!) and I have dropped to 14 stone. That 2 stone has made Me look better (fit as f  k now!) and generally feel a lot better. To achieve this I did the following : Stopped eating bread altogether. Have 3 portions of fruit for breakfast plus a yoghurt, soup at lunchtime & a sensible meal such as chicken with cous cous & veg every worknight (Mon - Thurs). Cut out fatty food in general. Only get pissed once a week instead of 3, usually Saturday evening. I used to drink Real Ale & Cider....I have cut out the Cider! Only have one curry a week instead of 3!! If I am hungry I will either have a piece of fruit or a cup of tea. Go for lots of walks. Ok so all of the above seems to have worked, the downsides are : Constantly watching what I eat & it can become a bit obsessive, I dont really want to lose any more weight but also dont want to put it back on. Sometimes I just want to goad on Kebabs, Curries and other s  te which I have cut out. I need a full new wardrobe of clothes as my old ones dont fit anymore! I have more wind than ever due to excessive fruit & veg intake (good job our lass doesnt mind!) Sundays become boring, I used to go to the pub then for a curry as a general rule...now I go for a walk and home for a cup of tea! Basically, cutting out the carbs, fatty food, processed s  te & getting excercise works! Good Luck!

There's a great quote I saw the other day "Obsession is a word the lazy use to describe the dedicated". Now, there's nothing wrong with the occasional junk food. I had fish and chips last week. Pie and mash this week. As long as you don't overeat, you'll be fine. One thing a fair few MFP users do is go a bit hardcore with the healthy eating then have a massive binge, ruining their previous work and feel s  t about themselves. As I maintain, cut down not cut out.

When most people are trying to diet, they cut everything out and when they do have a cheat day or meal they seem to overeat and destory there progress.

Hardly any carbs today.
Two cups of tea for breakfast and a couple of coffees (white no sugar, same as the tea)mid morning. Three slices of ham (little square slices) a tomato, lettuce and a squirt of salad cream for lunch. About to have a grilled gammon steak with a fried egg on top with a few slices of potato 'frittered' in the oven with spray on olive oil.
Not too bad me thinks.

Sounds like your nearly starving yourself in the day.
Can't you eat breakfast? The best meal of the day. Eat ya carbs for breakfast to give you energy throughout the day.

I have three scrambled eggs for breakfast most days with lashings of tomato sauce for the prostate  Keeps me going until lunchtime no problem. Carbs for breakfast make you want a snack at 11.00.

I have cercel and the only other carbs I have throughtout the day maybe be a half of a bagel or maybe a small cup of pasta or rice with dinner.

dont confuse starvation with dieting. You should eat breakfast and a good lunch. today I had weetabix and a yoghurt for brekkie, then a 3 egg omelette with cheese, chorizo and mushroom with some spinach. it was delicious and filling. Going to have some salmon for dinner about 7 with some salad and a glass of wine. Plenty to eat, just all good stuff and no snacks. When I do snack, I bought lots of nuts which I filled the cupboards with. not salted or roasted, just a nice selection.
lots of glasses of water and jobs a good un.
everything in moderation mate otherwise you'll hate it.

Agreed. You've gone too far the other way. You'll hate it and last a week.
As I said earlier, use an online tracker to monitor calorie intake. No reason you can't have a decent bit of food and lose weight.

Chaps, you misunderstand. I've never been a breakfast person. I really struggle to get anything other than tea or coffee down me before 10am.
Lunch today was a bit of a rush affair, I was late home from work, had to eat something quick before rushing out the door to my son's speech day. Usually lunch would have been at least half as much again with perhaps a packet of Walkers (28g multipack size). I'm certainly not going to go around feeling half starved all day, that would totally defeat the object.
The idea is to eat less, not 'pick' or snack between meals(never a problem)and eat smaller portions.
Today was a bit extreme, I grant you. Gammon was a bit salty, so will be drinking gallons of water this evening, which can never be a bad thing!

I never used to eat breakfast but forced myself to do it about a year ago and I have to have something to start the day. Fuel.

I put on a couple of stone after being on 'roids for six months after getting pneumonia last year....went to see a dietician as part of the recovery (thank you BUPA) and have been put on a Low GI diet...I was probably a stone overweight before this so three stone overweight in total.
I was set a target to lose 14 kg in three months (just over two stone)...in the first six weeks I've lost 8 kg. Now I am not drinking because I am still recovering from the pneumonia but it's been remarkably easy so far. It takes a but of planning but it's really not too bad.
I can still eat plenty of carbs but it's oat based cereals, rye or soy and linseed bread (white bread is evil and brown wholemeal isn't great either), brown rice and boiled spuds (for some reason they are better than baked on the GI scale)...other things I am doing are olive oil spread instead of butter (which is absolutely fine) and zero fat yoghurts which are actually pretty good.

Ahh, sorry Owen. Well all was going well until Friday last week. The scales Friday morning showed a 'loss' of 6lbs since Monday morning. Then I had a crap evening and eventually got home at nine thirty and sank a bottle of Chardonnay. Saturday was well behaved, but went out with my dear wife in the evening as Junior was on a sleep-over. This led to a couple of pints (4ish) and a curry. Sunday was 'dry' though. Monday morning weigh revealed a loss of 3lbs on the week. Which, quite honestly, I was ecstatic about considering how bad my weekend had been. This week is progressing well. No alcohol and smaller portions. Having salads for lunch and sensible dinners. Monday I had two jacket potatoes for tea and couldn't finish them. Last night, grilled burgers, beans and yet more jacket potato. Tonight might be my downfall this week - my wife's lasagne. I could easily eat the entire dish. Also, my birthday on Saturday (worst, it's my birthday this week thread ever!  )which means another curry and loads of beer/wine probably. This week might actually finish with a weight gain if I am not strict with myself tonight and the rest of the week to Saturday.
