Right, the Tiger's doing well, but the rear brake has started to 'chatter' at low speeds (8mph or less) as you come to a stop - when you use it at higher speeds it's smooth.
By chatter, I mean you can feel it as if the ABS is pulsing. It still seems to stop as it should. The front brake feels smooth and normal. The bike is a 61 plate and has done 5.5K - surely the pad can't be worn out and it's pad on disc yet (though I do use the rear brake a fair bit). I haven't had time to get down and see what state the pad is in - the Nissin calipers don't show you a lot of pad on first glance.... and I can't see any stones stuck in it and the disc doesn't look like it's scored to hell.
Is it a duff ABS sensor, is it a worn pad, more to the point, is it something I can leave for another 3 weeks till it's serviced ?
Ta as always

Is it the pad not returning due to a sticky piston? How dirty is caliper?

Does it actually feel like the ABS pulsing? If so it could be dodgy management or even a slightly warped disc

That's today's lesson learned. I didn't know bikes had rear brakes.

you have one of those scooter things, yes, twist and go - so just one brake at the front meaning you can ride it in heels ?
does it feel like the ABS - yes, it feels as if the pedal is 'going up and down slightly', similar to when I kicked the ABS in on mud and the same as you get in a car, when you rely on the brakes to save you when you dive into a corner far far too quickly...

I had a similar thing with my kids in the back seat of my car chattering away.
I found a good book shuts them up. Shades of gray is a good start.

It could just be deposits on the disc, do you take it for a spin to dry them off after washing it? Try doing a couple of fairly hard stops from 50 just using the rear and seee if it clears up.
Don't you get a warning light when the ABS is triggered?

Have you changed your footwear to something that reduces your feel and are therefore mashing the brake and locking it, without realising?

I don't know much at all about bike ABS, but I'm sure cars are designed not to use ABS below 5-10mph (for in snow I believe). Maybe this is something similar where something's broke? Meaning the ABS is pulsing below the set speed?

I use it occasionally to level the bike when braking with a pillion on or to lean on in a tight u-turn, but thats about it.

It's much more useful on other styles of bike which still have weight over the rear when braking. /age old can of worms

It's much more useful on other styles of bike which still have weight over the rear when braking. /age old can of worms There's a quote from - if I remember correctly - Wayne Rainey in one of Keith Code's books, which says 'I occasionally use the rear brake when I pull into the pit garage...' Some do, some don't. When I was racing, I never did, but then again, I never ended up winning any BSB or WSB titles either, lol! Interestingly, Mick Doohan had his thumb operated rear brake fitted after his busted leg disaster at Assen in '93, and he used to talk about how useful it was to control wheelspin? And so, the argument rages on.....

and the answer is, "worn out pad" - almost metal on metal.... I suppose I probably do make a lot of use of the rear brake, rather than the front in ordinary riding.... I tend to just use that to slow more gradually than grabbing at the front one..... so maybe I have just worn it out - what with it being a quarter of a ton of bike with a pot-bellied silverback on it.
I think I might have to take a bit more interest in that and check it rather more closely in future !
