Hello All,

Am looking to buy a Heuer Calculator – has anyone owned one and/or has tips on what to look out for? I’ve always tended to buy watches from new, hence is it something I’d want to take to a jeweller to get checked over/authenticated?

Thanks,

James

Your avarage jeweller wont have a clue (in my experience) - you really need to find a Heuer expert.

As mentioned, definitely something for the Heuer specialist rather than 'any' watchmaker.
Plenty of reputable (albeit, expensive!) vintage Heuer dealers around as well.

Great watch - I've owned one since 1980. My model doesn't have the red highlights and has a scaled "hours elapsed" inner dial.

Looking at the one you show, I don't understand how the hours scale (the inner left hand timer) works but no doubt there's an explanation! smile

I wore mine regularly for 10 years or so. I flew 100s of hours with it on my wrist and it never let me down, performing all the tasks and functions that were needed. You do however, need good eyesight, or good glasses, to read the outer scale of the circular slide rule IF you intend 'using' this watch for the job it was designed to do. Your macro picture flatters the size of the numerals and scales compared to the actual size watch.

I wind mine regularly whilst not wearing it but haven't had it serviced recently. Last time IIRC it was done by the same jewler from whom it was originally bought. But I THINK they used to return it to Heuer whose HQ was in Euston Road, London NW1.

A watch auctioneer told me about three years ago that this Heuer Calculator was making around £3,000 "hammer price" which would indicate people were actually paying close to £3,900 with "buyers premium". Please don't take that as anyway an accurate value today!! I have no idea what's happened since I last heard a few years ago but it's rare to see one for sale IMO.

Nick.

Prices seem all over the place for these but there are two different movements I believe? The last three that sold on TZ-UK (2011) were up for £2,400, £1,600 and £1,200. Must admit I was really tempted when the cheap one came up as they are a really funky looking piece.

Hi,

I have a "Heuer Calculator" which is in excellent shape or like new. It was purchased in Germany and I wore it only a few times.

I would like to sell it.

If anyone is interested, please let me know.

The date today is April 4, 2013.

I'll take it. Please send me the watch by Money Transfer. I'm going to use it to calculate the food rations for 1000 starving orphans in Nigeria.

I would be interested but it seems as though the date function is broken, so I will pass for now thank you.

Am I missing something here, the watch states Automatic, but IMHO the movememt is mechanical wind.

Fantastic looking watch though, so much better without the chav Tag.
I thought the cal 15 was automatic.

It is, the picture in the link you added shows no rotor, but the movement uses a micro rotor which is unseen from the back, I like it even more now.

Every day is a school day.
Yep, the micor-rotor is a very clever bit of engineering. Had a watchmaker open the back of my Cal 15 Carrera to try and service it... he gave up instantly (thought the rotor was actually lost!) and it's gone back to TAG sadly; 14 weeks and 600 quid frown

TAG?? You mean STS or Bienne for a vinage Heuer surely, they are they ones who know what to do with them.
