I thought I'd post some pics while I remember of my SL350.

Ive had the car for about 2 months now and am fairly happy with it...despite in the first week some old dear reversing into the front of it its been a pleasure to drive. The 3.5 v6 is really punchy and more than adequate for the aluminium chassis. In sport mode the car is fairly taut and does have a fairly composed driving feel. The interior is very luxurious and is a great place to be on a day to day basis. Boot space is fairly decent for having a folding roof.

I'll be honest I'm not 100% sold on the looks...but its def growing on me...i actually like the non-amg styling more as I feel the front end looks a bit "bull nose" on the AMG Sport version.

Things I don't like:

Brakes Squeak annoyingly
Boot doesn't open properly when pressed
The upgraded porcelain leather is a NIGHTMARE!!! with blue jeans....

When my car was getting repaired I had a loan SL which was in standard spec and i was flabbergasted that a cup holder is an option on this base price £72k car!!!

So all in all im fairly pleased with it...would i have paid retail for it...hell no, I took this car on a lease deal that was around in Nov last year for £270+Vat pm.

Looks very nice! Really classy. I borrowed one whilst waiting for my SLK to be built and I loved the noise the engine made, also it was a fantastic place to eat up the miles. That's a great price you got it for too!

Also meant to say that my SLK is in the dealer's as we speak having the squeaky brakes looked at so I'll let you know what they find.

Agree on the looks- much better as a non AMG IMO.

That is stunning.

What was the deposit on the lease?

The deal if I recall was a 6/23 so the deposit was £2k followed by £340pm in VAT per month for 23 months.

It was through MB Brighton direct so no fees to pay.

Can't argue with that.

It looks great to me and you know how sceptical I am about new ones.

The deal is just astonishing. How many miles will they let you do?

its 10k per annum for the mileage.

I was about to buy a CLS Shooting Brake and this came up. The main reason why it was so cheap was because it didn't have the AMG styling and at the time MB had just launched the kit and suspension as standard on all new SL's with a £6k drop in price so this car was never going to sell on the forecourt..well in their eyes anyway so they slapped another 12k dealer contribution on top of the existing for some of these non AMG Sport versions left to get them out the door. Like I said earlier I didn't really like the AMG kit on the R231 (and I've always had AMG Mercs) I just felt it didn't look quite right...other will disagree but i wasn't fussed so took the deal. Bonus was i got panoramic, air-scarf, ambient lighting, upgraded leather & wooden steering wheel at no extra cost.

As for the styling of the R231 it does look better in the flesh...i think it will be like the BMW E60 where it will take a few years before it settles in and the MB range generalises. All in all though cars pretty decent.

So £5K a year for 2 years in a brand new SL? eek

Can't argue with that.

Do you have the chance to buy the car at the end?

I think there is an option to buy in the terms but to be honest I prob wont...SL's are dropping like stones way more than the £5k per annum my lease is...the example I had on hire was a 900 mile example which was being sold for £49k!!!! that's like a £20k drop already for what is still a demo vehicle, i can only imagine in 2 years what they'll be worth...£30k maybe even less?

£20K from list, but does anyone actually pay anything like list?

Cheapest 2 year old SL at Mercedes currently is £42K for a 350.

Mine was the same, very loud when pulling up to traffic lights etc. Mercedes have told me that there are updated pads for my car and they are going to replace all the pads once they get them in stock.

Congrats the car looks great.

I recall that deal being out there at the time. If it had tied in with my timeline for changing I'd have jumped at it.

Did you ever get the pads replaced? I've got my car booked in next week to have the squeaking looked at.

I'm jealous Barrie! I was away for a week around that time and when I got back to my emails I had this same offer in my inbox. I immediately contacted the dealer and they told me I was too late and that they had all been sold... gutted!

Current best 6+23 offer I have seen since is around £699/month inc VAT. Your deal is a bargain and i would have snapped it up immediately if i'd been able to.

Yeah they have been replaced however, unfortunately the car has been with the dealer ever since as there is an intermittent fault under the bonnet that they are struggling to remedy. As a result I haven't been able to find out if it has cured the problem. I've been lent an SL350 and funnily enough this does also have squeaky brakes however no where near as loud as they were in my SLK.

Oh, and in the end it was just the rears that were replaced as the fronts were fine.

Update:

Car goes back in Nov and I called MB to ask what it would be to keep it another year as this was a choice I had.

£15 short of £1000 pm !!!!! so it will be a sad farewell to this amazing car!
