went to do my bike theory test tonite , guy demanned to see my license even though it was book thourgh dsa and he had my driver no.
My point is surely as long was i have proof of identiy , passport that i do not have to show a driving license , end of the day it is a theory test not practical so there fore you are not on the roads so do not require a license anyway .
Do you have to show your license to these types of numpties as his card showed that he did not even work for dsa but some third party company.
Third part of rant , called dsa and they said that i don't have a b1 on my license so have to do thoery test , looking at license b1 is a milk float , what the flock has that got to do with a bike
also reading there sh!t book it says that a car driver doesnot have to do the test
has anyone else had these problems and some advice please before i go nuclear on these floocker tommorow morn

You need to do the bike theory test, these days before sitting the practicle (not the CBT) fook knows what stuff I took along to the exam, probably passport + license.

Did my test on a Honda CJ125.

Nearly 20 years ago!! Bloke stood on pavement with pad, I drove round the block a few times, remembering to look back when he came into view. He stepped out into the road on the third circuit and I stopped sharpish. He said congratulations. The next bike I was on was a CB900F2!!

Got my advanced now though ..()

My original test sounds very similar to pedestrians (except when I came past one time the examiner was using the cashpoint) but seeing as Mrs Mel is doing her CBT in the morning to be followed by a 3day direct access course and test (which includes a theory even though she's had a car license for errrrrrrrr a fair few years) I'm personally all for the theory test (regardless of experience) if you read my thread in general gassing you'll see that not many of us "old timers" are as good as we think we are and could learn a thing or two, and remember that's from "enthusiasts" not numpty joe public. As for being asked for your license when you went for the test, I think I would have actually expected that and therfore taken it.

I've been riding motocross bikes for a while now over here in france, and I'm very seriously considering gettig my license so I can get a road bike aswell.
The thing is I need to come back to the UK to get it (its more easy than going through the franch system).
Do I have to get a CBT first before I can take the theory test?
Or can I just come back for a long weekend and take the theory, then once I have that come back for a weeks holiday and do an intensive course to take the actual test?

Can I answer all this tomorrow as I'm going down to the school in the morning and will ask them for you. I know they block book tests in advance so that at the end of the 3 day course you are guaranteed a practical test but not sure if the theory is a monday-friday 9-5 type thing or if as a approved school they are allowed to do it "in house". Where abouts in the UK would you be looking at coming to take it?

Slightly off subject but oh how myself and a mate laughed at Mrs Mel's expense last night.

We decided that pre CBT she should atleast learn the basics so after nicking a few cones from the road side we set up a little "mini cbt" in the drive. Now currently my garage contains in road trim a ZX12R (hardly a CBT machine) plus in race trim a ZX7RR a Fireblade and a Aprillia RS250 so we perched her astride the RS250 gave her the basics about gears, clutch, throttle etc and off she went up and down for half an hour while we emptied the garage fridge of stella. Confidence grew right up to the point where she got caught the wrong way on a slope and dropped it, so 2 stellaed idiots prop her back on the Aprillia and off we go again round some cones up and down before a little excurshion into a bush. Back on again up and down round and round and I can honestly say that after a couple of hours she had it sussed enough that we perched her on the Blade for a single cone run with the two drunks either side and she did it without a hitch.

I'd like to say thank heavens for nylon crash bungs, boots, gloves, jacket and helmet. Well done to Stella Artois for adding the fuel to our amusement, and most of all well done to Mrs Mel for seeing the funny side at her expense without getting all female and moody and well done for learning the hard way.

She'll be gutted when she sees the CG125 she'll be using for the CBT then

Yep, the theory test really is simple, just make sure you get a copy of the DVLA book with the sample Q&A's and read it and practice.

I flew though mine in 2 or 3 minutes, got 35/35

Around Norfolk, or near Sheffield.

Alway read the info from the DSA it would have stated on the letter telling you when and where to go for you test what you had to take with you, never asume anything
And if you don't look a great deal like your passport photo, get some other form of ID sorted before your Practical, at the test centre I did my bike test at in March, they have been known to turn people away on test day because of this,

So they can prove that the person attempting to take the test is the same person on the actual licence. Otherwise unscrupulous scrotes would get their mate (who may have already passed) to take the test for them.

That was also one of the reasonings behind the photo-id driving licence. Me I prefer the big-brother theory

Obvious really
