Anyone know if you can still get hold of them? I am aware he may have had health issues, so might not be selling them anymore..

I found a thread mentioning Mahle/Mobile/Royal Purple potentially selling a similar filter?

I'm not sure why everyone makes such a fuss about the filter, just use a quality item from someone like Mann and you won't have any issues.
The Mann part number is W930/20.

I tried the David Brown filter on my 2000 year Chim.
I couldn’t get it to fit because it’s extra length clashed with the cross bracing chassis bars. It did clear them but only by 2 or 3mm when screwed really tight so I decided not to risk it. I had new engine mounts that were well raised too so it wasn’t sagging, I had a good 10-15 mm from manifolds to top chassis rails.
They are known to fit on some cars so it’s pot luck I think!

Better filtration, bigger capactiy, higher flow, longer life.. Not sure what else a filter does..

The amount of money I have in my Cerb, I am happy to spend an extra £5/10 a year on a better filter.

I have 1 V8F filter left, and wanted to bulk buy some more, or find an alternative.

The fitment is tight on my Cerb, but it does work.

Not sure if it's worth importing them from the states by the time you pay the taxes etc, you could sell some on to cover the tax costs though !

When you've added the postage the total price is £27.55 which I've got to say is a bit strong for one oil filter, saying that the Royal Purple Extended Life Oil Filter 20-253 can be changed every other oil change so the price is effectively halved to a more reasonable £13.77 every 10,000 miles.

While I'm a vocal advocate of fiberglass filtration media there's nothing wrong with running a good quality cellulose filter changed regularly, K&N make an excellent cellulose filter (HP-2004) you can buy for £13.00 but I would be changing this at every 5,000 mile oil change.

Does anyone know how to reach David Brown other than via his email address?

Would be good to support someone who has taken the financial risk of having a batch of filters made, even if a Royal Purple option is available

I found a return shipping address on my last purchase from David, so last year I tried writing to him

Sadly received no reply

Anyone else heard from David at all?

I tried to email him to order more of his filters months ago but didn't get a reply. Not a good sign.

What is so special about his oil filters, except that they seem to be longer than normal ones, and therefore a PITA to fit? The TVR/Rover V8 was designed in the 1950s, and in most TVRs does about as many miles in year as your average rep-mobile does in a week. Oil technology has moved on since the engine was designed and will protect it better anyway.

You can buy long-life filters, but you're not driving a truck that does 75-100,000 miles per year.

As I understand things it is the quality of filtration rather than being 'long life' that is the attraction?


May be not really of any benefit on a 25 year old engine that could have had any old oil and filters in its life but if you've just had a mega bucks super duper rebuild you may want the best filter you can get.

I think like most things on here someone will say they have started to use them and they are the bees knees when in reality they are no better than an oe filter changed regularly.

The filter is a perfect fit for my AJP8 (which is not a Buick based engine from the 50s), and the fact it is larger I see as an advantage as the extra filtration area means a lower pressure gradient

I have just replaced the bearings, so the far better filtration offered by synthetic media is the key benefit to me

Any extra life span of the filter itself would be irrelevant if it weren't for the fact that I only have two left, as for the extra cost, a £15 premium has to be the least important factor

Of course other people are welcome to use Fram or whatever, I'm sure they are 'good enough'

Torqen have just received a batch of Royal Purple synthetic filters

They had been on back order for months, so if you need one now might be a good time

Like most things, they are 50% more expensive than they were when this thread was started
