Hi

Am off to Harrogate on business the week after next and plan to take a bike, probably a Brompton if its delivered in time

Hotel is central and I'd like to get out for 30-40km once or twice during the week before work starts

I have no idea of the area and thought it would be funny to do one of the Harrogate Zwift routes however Ive looked at the Otley Rd on Google street view and decided thats probably a bad idea in the peak morning traffic

Is there an obvious loop out of the centre on reasonably quiet roads?
If not what would you suggest a modest drive away?

Im honestly not bothered about hills, the more the merrier, and if the Brompton doesnt arrive in time will have a road bike

Thanks in advance

You should find a few good routes here - https://explore.osmaps.com/?lat=54.049687&lon=...
I'd drive north to Ripley, park up & try the 67 route. If you pick up the 688 to Ripon there is a good cafe in the park.
Avoid the A61 it's awful.
I'm not a fan of anything towards Pateley Bridge - serious hills & can be heavy with tipper traffic but you could try a once in a lifetime climb up Greenhow Hill while you are here! Go to the Sandwich Box for a whopping fill up.

Spa Cycles in Starbeck might be worth a visit & will have anything you need.
Do hope you have a good break & enjoy your visit.

For a traffic free route out of town, the Nidderdale greenway is a paved off road cycle route along an old railway line. Takes you over the Nidd Gorge viaduct as far as Ripley and you can go from there.
