Our good friend is 40 and we are looking for accomodation for 12 - 14 July in Brighton, or possibly Hove for the right accommodation. We will be bringing a car which I think presents issues. 2 couples in total.

Quality is more important than price really, any tips appreciated.

We stayed at the Malmaison in the marina and there was parking. Had the same issue trying to find other hotels with parking.

From recollection, we didn't have to pay for the parking either, which I was really surprised at having heard of the reputation of parking in Brighton!

Malmaison, Grand, Hotel du Vin, Double Tree/Hilton all ok. Premier inn in North Street if you're slumming it, Wouldn't bother with Hove, too quiet & a bit of a schlep into town. Same with the Marina really. It's not much different from being in any non descript out of town retail park & not really an easy walk to town either.

Hotel Du Vin on Ship Street isn't bad at all and in a decent location.

Not sure if The Grand has had its planned refurbishment or not, but that will be worth a look if it has.

Actually that's a fair shout. Had forgotten about that.

Re parking, top tip, the nearest car park to that hotel is The Lanes car park on Black Lion St. This car park costs £40.50 for 24hrs.

It's cheaper to find a permanent double yellow NOT CAUSING AN OBSTRUCTION and park there. Even over a weekend you can only get one ticket as it's a 'continual offence'. Pay the parking ticket of £35 if paid within 7 days.

Don't park in resident bays as these are timed (9am-8pm 7 days a week) so if you're there two days you could get two tickets.

The grand’s not great. Posh public areas, crap rooms.

It depends on the type of room. Stayed in one of the balcony rooms on the front in March and it was nice. A mate stayed in one of the ones at the back and said it wasn't great.

It changed hands last year & auctioned off all the interiors ahead of a major refurb, so if it's done it'll likely be sweet but might be in the middle of the works, so check first.
