The East Coast

I'm looking for recommendations on the East coast for our potter around. We're starting in Ipswich and are determined not to head across to Belgium and France if possible. We've been to Pin Mill, Harwich, Levington and dropped anchor just across from Harwich (Can't recall what it's called) We also went North about 3 miles and down to Woodbridge? which was lovely, although a little tight to get into. Any other recommendations (We've been South, so done Chatham many times and covered that area.

The Colne and Blackwater are both nice.

Brightlingsea is OK for a short stop (not much to do) but you can get ashore via the water taxi, and the club there does some reasonable food.

There are marinas at Bradwell and Tollesbury, though again there isn't much there. Tollesbury is very restricted by the tide, but Bradwell is a bit more accessible. Depending on your draft you should have access for a reasonable time. Further up the Blackwater there is the Stone - only swinging moorings there, but you may find one free. There is plenty of activity there and the clubhouse is usually open for food and beer at weekends for racing. Quite a few boats tend to anchor at Osea island, which is usually sheltered enough for overnight stays if you don't want to go ashore.

Further up still you can get into Maldon, but unless you are quite shallow draft you will have to wait for the tide. There are pubs/restaurants etc in the town.

You could easily spend a few days pottering about, and it's a nice area.

Thanks, we spent a week in Burnham whilst replacing the propshaft that we lost 2 years ago sailing into there. We were one of 3 boats that day which lost the prop..... which is unusual.

We'll try a few of the other suggestions. We really have 2 criteria for visiting a place. 1) Nice food/pubs to explore 2) Beautiful scenery

Ore and Alde. Peace and quiet and a real change from the rather busy Orwell. Very sheltered and good anchorages overnight. Albrough yacht club very welcoming, food/beer/showers.
Went all the way up to Snape Maltings last summer.
Need good up to date pilot though, the current in and out of the entrance have to be seen to be believed and the bar shelves very steeply.
