I am trying to locate a web site to get a cardiologist to take a private appointment with my mother in law as the local hospital/GP seem at a loss.

Last time I had to find a consultant privately it was easy and i was in within 24 hours, but I am struggling this time.

Anybody know the places/sites to look?

It is South Yorks BTW.

Your local private hospital would be the best place to ask.

I have found Dr Foster Health now which lists by speciality. There is a proof only 7 miles aweay, so that may be ideal. Thanks for the suggestion.

Are you saying your GP doesn't know the cardiologists in the area?

Use the Search box at the bottom of the page. oodmess knows how competent they are so you are better off going with a recommendation, or try and hunt out some forums (if they are allowed too exist.

Seeing the same GP twice, who has the right notes, test results and interest to make a single decision on what the problem is would be the first step. My mother in law left hospital after 2 weeks on a geriatric ward seeing the SHO equivilant, sicker than when she went in, with no follow up plan (no doctors/health visitor), without knowing what was wrong with her, with the wrong medication (her notes said one thing, but in fact she had never had the medication they said she had been on). The father in law is run ragged.

It has just been a rather painful and unhappy comedy of errors. She is swollen like a ballon, with continuing pains in the back and shoulders, a catheter inserted, being sick after every meal. The doctor is coming tomorrow for one last go before we try and get someone who actually knows what the problem may be to look at her. All the synmptoms say heart failure and they are treating her for a chest infection and have been for a month. They either know and are saying nothing, or don't know. Either way, it has to end.

The poor old thing, that sounds ghastly.

Here are a couple - these guys are CAA recommended, so one would imagine pretty decent. Even emails included!

Many thanks. I have Prof Wealdon on the list , and he has a heart failure and echothingy speciality.

I have spoken to a medic friend and from what she says I think MIL knows more than she is letting on , probably for the right reasons but her sitting there saying nowt won't make her any more comforable.

I can ask at work tomorrow if that helps - but Thornbury is a good bet - or try Claremont too. (both in Sheffield)

Edit: Put animal rescue charity name instead of hospital. Oops.

It has been suggested that you contact the cardiac team at the Northern General in Sheffield. The team in Leeds has a very good name too.

Hope that is of some help and your mum is feeling much better soon.

Many thanks for the names etc, and for the kind offer from Ade via PM.

GP came yesterday and the father in law took them to task. Appears they have cunning plans to refer her to a cardiologist as soon as they have sorted out the chest problems. Finally found out that she has had the various echothingies and it is a leaky heart valve. I will keep of top of them doing something ASAP.

LGF, I laughed at the Thornbury thing. I suspect she would be much happier (she is a big dog fan) and get better treatment there than Rotherham General!
