- In Europe
- could also be tram or metro (underground) links too, I suppose.

I'm just trying to plan a quick 3 night break for October half term (2 adults/2 kids).
Not too fussy which European city, just looking at cheap flights/air bnbs in the city etc.

Despite lots of googling and scrutinising google maps, I'm still struggling to pick a destination.

Basically want to hop off the plane and hop on to a train/tram/metro (with a bit of luggage) into the city fairly easily.

Any tips or advice would be very welcome. Thanks...

Colongne/Bonn is under the terminal.
Amsterdam Schipol is underneath the terminal.
Munich is underneath the terminal.
Paris is a short walk from memory.

Last time I was in Geneva the train into town and all the local public transport was free for visitors. I wouldn’t describe anything else there as cheap though.

Have a look at the Wikipedia page for any airport of interest and it’ll probably list the transport links available under “Ground Transportation” or something similar

Forgot to add Nice. The tram goes from outside the terminal and you can catch that to the main station (5min walk) for further afield or stay on for city centre.

Malpensa in Milan - there’s a train that runs from the airport to Milano Centrale and another - the S50 - that runs up to Varese/Lugano/Locarno and Biasca.

Lonate is closer to the centre but you need to get a bus or taxi (ca €25).

Thanks for that. Useful info. Flights to Germany do seem generally well priced compared to many places.

Thanks for that one...Milan also tends to top the 'cheap flights' when it comes to Italy so certainly worth a look

Apart from Oslo, the only city in which, back in the 80s, I had to get my Access card out to pay for two fairly pedestrian ice creams.

S-Bahn (local) trains in Dusseldorf are also under the terminal, with the longer distance stuff a short shuttle away. Cologne and Dusseldorf well connected to each other so easy to base in one and visit the other for a day

Pisa airport has a ‘people mover’ from the airport to the station (like a cable pulled tram from memory) then Florence is 70 mins away and cheap fares by UK standards

Consider Findel airport in Luxembourg. The tram line isn't finished yet but there's an excellent bus service into the city. Better still, all public transport here is free.

Amsterdam is easy, leave plane jump on train downstairs, hop off 15 minutes later and walk to dam square etc or onto a tram if needed.

Germany has been the best country I have visited in Europe for this. Munich, Stuttgart, Nuremberg and Hamburg all had either a metro or train station at the airport. Some had both and from memory you could get 1 ticket to cover train/metro/bus/tram.

Bucharest, Romania has a new train station next to the airport. 0.54p ride into the main station then hop on the underground for 0.52p. not as seamless as Germany but still good.

Also bear in mind that from Schipol you can get a train to various parts of North Western Europe without needing to change. Also, depending on where your hotel is, you might not want to go to Centraal, eg if you’re staying in the Citizen M then you’ll probably want to go to Zuid.

Loads of good tips and food for thought here thanks.
Pretty sure I can plan something now.
May well be Germany, as always had that in mind due to the generally shorter flights/choice of cities and decent looking train network.
However, will certainly have a look at all the others mentioned, Malaga, Schipol, Luxembourg etc etc. Thanks

Barcelona airport has a train station in it which I have used to both take me into the centre, or with a connection to Sitges.
