A couple of years ago someone bought an S to SCH which had a modification to the bonnet hinge so it would open fully vertically without the car being jacked up. It seemed to pivot pretty much about the lowest point on the nose rather than a foot or so it which it is by standard. Loads of pictures were taken but not by me so I have no idea how they did it!

Does anyone have a picture or information on the mod?

Cheers,

Tom

Thanks everyone!

Come home from work to find all the information I need!! Have to figure out how to fabricate something like this for myself now.

It's an S3C, doesn't have them
Well you learn something everyday. I assume it uses a MAP sensor then rather than Alpha-N. can you convert a non cat car to use MAP? Would need lambda sensors though I guess.

Aye, uses MAP & lambda sensors to determine fuelling etc.

Might be a different ECU, or different software, so not sure how easy it would be to convert (or if there are any benefits other than a determination to fit cats, that most S3C owners are removing).
I had looked at removing the AFMs just because they restrict the air flow to the engine. I was looking at tuning and improving the engine but it doesn't really make sense financially so I'm now thinking about a 24V conversion in the future though rather than improving my 12v. Require money, time and a garage for that though, all of which I am lacking!

Hi Tom,
Once you've succeeded in this, I reckon you should consider a production batch, I think a lot of guys out there would be very interestedsmile
Just a thought.
Cheers,
Glen
I see I may have accidentally volunteered myself for this! I'm quite happy to make a batch up once I have a working design. I was going to wait until I had a MIG welder before I made anything but if I'm making a batch it makes sense to get someone who knows what they are doing to weld them up.

No promises but I will do some investigating.

Feel free to keep adding names should anyone want to get on board as it will give me an idea of numbers. No commitment at this stage of course.

Hi everyone, sorry for my absence.

I appologise if you have been waiting on me as I decided to buy a house so my progress isn't what I had planned. In terms of the hinges I had plenty of ideas and I have a rough design but I haven't got to the point of making prototypes.

As far I was concerned the important point of the hinges were that they allowed the bonnet to be easily removed without having to adjust the bonnet. I wasn't intending on including the R-clip as I'm pretty sure no one is going to be removing their bonnet so often that they need to be able to do it in 10 seconds flat. I was looking at using 2-4small bolts that needed undoing. All the adjustment would be on the bonnet side and would be fixed after the hinge was first fitted.

Anyway sorry if people were hoping on me getting something sorted quickly, I failed miserably! I still intend on sorting something for myself but it not be for a month or 2. Anyway looks like Norman is sorting things so I will leave things to someone with experience.

BTW sorry! getmecoat
