I feel honoured but I'm not sure if it's for me, or what I'd get from it. Can anyone offer any advice, are you a Freemason?

Edit for name change 9/01/11:
Now known as Ferodocastrol and I still have not made up my mind but the door is still open, apparently!

whatever you do don't ask that question when you get interviewed

you get out what you put in with masonry - you get to meet a load of people you wouldn't normally associate with, it's a evening a week out of the house (once you start to get to more senior positions in your lodge), it keeps your mind on the go having to learn the ritual and rubrik and you raise money for charity

granted it's not for everyone but you can join more than one lodge if your mother lodge (the one you initially join) isn't to your taste
Cheers for that, I guess what I mean is, what satisfaction would I get out of being a Mason, is it a status thing (not into that) or a religion (not into that either) I don't believe in a higher power and as for goats, I've been a veggie since 1995, I'm 43, never smoked, don't drink, and never killed anyone, or a goat. LOL.

If you cannot acknowledge the existence of a "Supreme Being", then don't go any further.
That's what I was thinking, I don't want to be lying my way through the process!

Are you a police Officer?
No, I make catering Trailers, my back ground is that of a carpenter/kitchen fitter and a multi musician, Guitar, Drums, Bass, Piano since 1979.
Interesting that you ask me that though, as the chap asking me to join the FM is a retired member of the her majesties's fuzz.

yes but i was too tight for them, they like loose men?shall i give them your email? smile
Re: Giving 'them'? My email 'address'? or just email?

Either way, very kind of you to offer, I think?
Thanks but no thanks. Also thanks for your creative and valued input to this thread, you must be exhausted, so take the rest of the week off, if you're not already off!

Regards to you and your other half.

P.S are you sure it was the Freemasons you had contact with and not the George Michael appreciation society at your local gents? I read about this activity on the front page of my national news paper some time ago, although they didn't mention any other names other than that of Mr GM as I remember. Anyway good luck to you matey, each to their own and all that.;)

alot of people from PH have just gone down in my estimations.
confused

For being masons?
yes
why? because they are in a 'club' because the club has a slight religious element to it? (so does the cub scouts - would you stop your kid from joining the cubs if his mates were in it?)
It's the religious element that's putting me off, I'm not the least bit religious but then I wonder how many FM's are religious?

OP,

One thing I would mention though is that you need to let them know if you're allergic to donkeys. You'll understand why after your initiation.

Thanks GT, Are you being serious with the above?

Again, depends entirely on what you want to do. Yes there is a financial commitment. Again, this is something you should ask the chap who asked you. He, i presume, will be your proposer.
Yes, he is the treasurer and doesn't want to progress any further than his seat, as he can't remember (or be arsed) the book.

So, is the OP decided to take this further, or has he read too much Dan Brown?
Thanks for asking (and dragging this post up again)rotate
The situation as of today's date, is that I should leave it 5 months as there is unrest in the lodge.
Just aswell as I'm still undecided, I feel honoured to be asked but I would have never thought about the Masons before hand.

I'll keep you posted.;)

really?

what have you been told?
Just that! I didn't ask, and if I knew what the unrest was about, I wouldn't post it anyway. There you are, I must have the makings of Mason?

the reason why I asked is because they haven't kept their word

you'll understand why when you take your oath
Oh, I see, point taken.;)

OP may I ask why not ?
I dont feel old enough yet, much the same way as I'd love a Jag but I'm going to wait until I'm over 55. The lodge is full of over 60yr olds. Also the chap who invited me, claims there is bitterness and in fighting (not fist fighting) at the moment, doesn't sound like a brotherhood in that lodge! Either way not yet for me, if at all.
