A picture of the Dome, which I'd never heard of, got me thinking about obscure or unique competition cars.

I'd be interested to see what else you can come up with!

Dome RL

Ford Torino at Le Mans

Ford GT70

Bmw M1 rally car

I'm atheist...

The 909 was a hillclimb car so light weight was more important than durability.

Don't you mean a version of the 908 (lots of them) I'm sure there was never a 909.

Hi there just came across this about my scirocco I still have the car not usable at this time .The car had 95bhp at the front wheels and 110 bhp at the back wheels power came from 2 1800 gti units supercharged 4psi front 8 psi rear was a very good car as all gear was standard cheap to run and could beat far more expensive cars wieght 2100 kgs it scored with very good traction and good cornering speed . After winning the NW tarmac champion ship twice I was going to try the forest but the RAC put paid to that by not isuing its log book then later putting in rules to ban it . The last event it did was a sprint at Wallasey won its class .Last outing was demo run at Wallasey Prom Rally .

Welcome aboard! It's great that you own a car mentioned in this thread. How did you come by it?

I'm a bit confused by the figures you've quoted there - GTI engines produced 110bhp as standard so surely the outputs with even low pressure S/Cs would be a fair bit higher? Also 2100kg seems wrong - a Golf GTI has a curb weight of around 975kg. Sorry to be pedantic but we PHers like our facts and figures!

Hi guys,

My Dad designed this:
(not my pic http://www.mulsannescorner.com/patmichlbrabhamlmp0...

He's been told on numerous occasions that's it was quite a radical/obscure design at the time, which has been the same for some of his other designs including the Lister LMP.
It looks quite normal in this day and age but back in 2001 it wasn't! It's a shame it's capabilities weren't fully explored as it could have been a very quick car!
As you say that wouldn't look out of place on the grid today.

The Toj sports racing cars are pretty obscure - the top pics are of the SS02 from 1974, lower pair are from 1976.

The 7 Series was a bizarre choice for a touring car, and I love the V8 Marina - it must have been quite a handful!

I hope nobody paid out on the bet bearing in mind that it wasn't a Roller at all! As well as the above the chassis was a spaceframe.

This one was used in a rally, the 1970 World Cup
