Anyone know where I can get some isopropyl alcohol from? I want a shop or store I can walk in and get a litre. I need it for cleaning stuff!....Honest! Boots and other Chemists I have tried don't sell it.

I tried to buy some in boots, they looked at me blankly whilst i said propan-2-ol and IPA, and as soon as I said isopropyl alcohol they said "we don't see alcohol" and just kept repeating that as I explained it wasn't alcohol...

oh well...

That's what I thought however in the UK there appears to be a problem now getting it, probably some new regulation or law brought in to protect us vulnerable citizens!

Not sure just how many chemists stock isoproyl alcohol, but purchased mine from the first chemist I went to. I know chemists are reluctant to sell it, as being alcohol, it can be consumed. yum

I use it for mixing with distilled water to use with my record cleaning machine. Perhaps if you have a word with the chemist, and convince him of your reason for use, the chemist might just find some lurking beneath the counter.

http://www.lpchemicals.com/product.php?N=Propan-2-...

Ordered from these guys before with no problems. The ebay option above may be easier, though.

Well I tried today and they said they did not sell it, maybe I'll have a go in a different branch. If not I'll have to try more chemists.

I see. Did you ask for isopropyl alcohol or 'rubbing' alcohol as its commonly known? TBH the person in boots was probably a moron and had no clue what you were asking about.
