Pre-war Astons on display last year
This Sunday, Blenheim Palace will host the Aston Martin Owners Club's Spring Concours. The event brings together over 200 Aston Martins which will be laid out in the Great Court and along the banks of the Lake.
The main event commences at 11am with the Duke of Marlborough presenting prizes at 3pm. This will be followed by a magnificent Parade taking place around the lake and across the bridge.
The club also hopes to have a special display of the Towns-designed 6-cylinder DBS cars that were launched at Blenheim Palace in September 1967, plus the first outing for the four-door DB9, otherwise known as the Aston Martin Rapide.
Visiting members’ Astons will be able to park in a special area above the lake with views to the Grand Bridge, close to the main event and where picnic lunches will be an attractive option. For others, there is an excellent café and restaurant in the Palace wing adjoining the concours itself. It should be a most attractive venue, particularly for those overseas visitors attending the auction and dinner in the Orangery on the previous day.
The Palace
Blenheim Palace was built at the command of Her Majesty Queen Anne between 1705 and 1722 by Sir John Vanbrugh and is arguably Britain’s greatest palace. It contains the work of the greatest artists and craftsmen of the day and the magnificent grounds are the work of Capability Brown. The Palace and park were created a World Heritage site in 1987.
The house will be open to view and is surrounded by water terraces, the Italian garden, and the lake and cascades. The restaurants, cafés, bookshop and garden shop will all be open.
