Trees blocked roads in west London
Winds of up to 80mph brought disruption to many of Britain’s roads this morning.
Much of the country woke up to heavy rain and strong winds leading to many roads being either flooded or blocked by fallen trees.
Meanwhile power was cut to thousands of homes in Devon and Cornwall after trees brought down power lines.
Trees have partially blocked the A390 at Callington, the A374 at Polbathic and the A395 at Kennards House.
Ferries were also cancelled from Portsmouth and the Red Jet catamaran service between Southampton and West Cowes was suspended but is back in service.
Trees fell on roads in north Hampshire and Berkshire, as well as around in and around London, and police in some areas warned motorists to only make ‘essential’ journies.
The Environment agency has opened its national incident room and is working closely with local government and emergency services to ensure coastal areas are prepared as the wind and waves escalate.
